No Bowl Game — Iowa State Turns Down Bowl Bid

Right now the most important thing we should be doing is getting the new staff in place and working to keep players and bring in new players. This is what’s best for the long term health of the program. I love that we are not even thinking about a bowl game. Strategically this was the right move.
Hey Coach Rogers! Welcome to the message board!!! :)

Question - I saw in a different thread the players walked out of the meeting in which Jimmy Rogers was announced as the new coach. Is this a player boycott?

The "official" reason was not enough healthy players to safely practice or play. Did most of the players quit? If so does that void their NIL money?

Respectfully, the walkout on the meeting was an exaggeration.

Over 100 players in the sidelines for home games every Saturday and now all of a sudden all of them a injured?

Weird how 9 days ago we were able to field a full team and even win a game. Oklahoma State lost their coach 6 weeks ago and were still going.

Iowa State is upset their coach left so they quit on the University and the fans. It's as simple as that. How are any of these players going to handle loss if they just quit?

Welcome to the real world, so if my boss that I really like and hired me decides to get a new job I should just immediately quit too?

You certainly could, it's probably even been done before.

It'll be interesting to see how many portal but return. If you are 2nd string on down, staying probably isnt a bad choice.

Per our AI Overview Overlords at Google, 40% of FBS players in the portal do not find a new home. Not sure how many of that 40% end up staying at old school.

The fact that Campbell will recruit some may skew that number in this case. But the ones that don't end up at PSU may want to be careful how they interact with the new staff. Finding a new home may not be as easy as they think.

Like everything else that has happened in the past 5 days it will probably not be as bad as it seems on the surface.

Bowl games have always been meaningless exhibitions. That's the fun in it. Upper Iowa won a bowl game yesterday and the trophy was the leg lamp from A Christmas Story.

And someone forgot to tell Washington State that they're supposed to decline a bowl game when their head coach leaves.

I picture Ralphy's mom in there slapping all of the players' hands away from the leg.

So what's our net loss $$$$?
We lose $500k due to fine.
We save on travel expenses.
We lose bowl payout.
What are the estimated $$$$ loss?
Sorry if this has been covered.
Depending on what bowl, it's probably a wash. The lower tier bowls, schools usually lose some money and the conference pays it back.

The money isn't as important as fan engagement, imo. I was hoping for AZ as a destination as I have friends there I haven't seen in a while and was definitely going to go. I probably would have went anywhere other than Memphis though. I think the real loss here is fan engagement. As others have said, we are constantly asked to give more and more and then they take one of the perks of those donations away.

I'm not blaming any one person in any of this, it's truly a top to bottom mess, but these past few days have really left a sour taste in my mouth about college football.

If we’re only going to say the CFP matters, then sure…but then maybe our players should bail once we get to 3 losses?

Matt wasn't their boss......he was their coach. Don't you think they might be a little miffed how easy it was for this coach, even for just a moment not practice what he preached? Unless I'm wrong the man just signed an extension.

And college football thanks to NIL has become the "real world". Were we not told time and time again by those pushing NIL on this website that players should be able to change their mind on a moment's notice just like coaches?

Be careful what you wish for:
XXXOOO
Matt Campbell

As for how the players handle losing...............well hopefully they don't learn from game threads on this site as an example.
