Since Pollard is a "figurehead" in general, I have to imagine he'd assess financial risk of declining vs. reward for accepting. But just because he has pragmatic approach doesn't mean he's always correct.

This is like the kiffin situation. You don;t get to leave and the dictate what goes on after you leave. Coaches and players that are quitting on Iowa State need to be escorted out of the building and have their courtesy cars, scholarships and NIL $ cut off immediately.
Not sure what Mouser really has done to deserve the head coaching job. Only case for hiring him was to keep more of the players from transferring.
Mouser was not a good OC. He’s a good TE coach. Which is what he will be at Penn State.
And you knew the top players would probably follow Campbell. So hiring him would hold our middle level players. Best to grab a new guy then. Sounds like the culture was decling inside the complex. Makes you wonder if Campbell had been looking a bit the last year or two.
What has our current guy done? To me they were both risky and had different pluses and minuses. But we didn't just hire some no-brainer.
We had a better no-brainer when we hired Campbell. At least another Power 5 wanted him.
That was the reason Wayne Morgan was hired. That didn't work out well, did it?
just thinking that maybe had someone been named interim coach it makes a difference but maybe nobody wanted to do that.
That money should come straight from Pollard’s salary.
Campbell would have stayed had Jamie relented some control. We are in this situation because of Pollard's short sighted arrogance.
We'll be headed there with TJ too if Pollard doesn't leave or change.

For example, Gene Stallings started (0-3) @ Alabama in 1990 before finishing the year (7-5) with wins over the rivals @ Tennessee and Auburn @ Legion Field. He followed that up with (11-1) in 1991 AND (13-0) in 1992 seasons.

It's all a crap shoot. And maybe this guy was the best we could get. But it is annoying that a team that has had actual success and has been nationally relevant for most of 10 years hires someone no one else wanted. I hope we are paying him very little.
Guess is this is a result of longest season many of these guys have ever been part of, opening season in a bowl atmosphere, obviously losing CMC, transfer portal timing, injuries and crappy bowl destination (Memphis). Fine might be less than the money spent to transport, feed and house team and band at bowl site.
