*** Official #10 IOWA STATE vs #1 Purdue Game(Day) Thread ***

And hour of postgame chores and I still can’t believe what I watched. That one will get saved to the DVR for when I am feeling down.

Did we almost beat them too badly? Will the narrative be that ISU was hit and Purdue played like ****? I feel like Duke is going to get more cred for SIMPLY EXISTING AS DUKE.
FIFY.

Lipsey looked good today. If he has any lingering effects with the groin, it wasn't obvious to me. Hope he stays healthy the rest of the year.

The headline is that the No. 1 team in the country lost at home, top-ranked Purdue getting run out of its own gym by No. 10 Iowa State, 81-58.
But focusing on Purdue would overshadow the bigger story: Iowa State is one of the most dangerous teams in college basketball right now. The Cyclones backed up their status as one of the nation’s best-shooting teams, hitting 11 3-pointers, and as one of the nation’s best defensive teams, holding Purdue to a season-low scoring output by a wide margin.

It happens. I was disappointed that JP hired his buddy to coach the program.
Thankfully, JP didn't ask me.
Don’t be too hard on yourself. Don’t think anyone was doing cartwheels when Pollard hired TJ. His body of work was still unproven. Hell, I said the Chiefs will always be a losing program when they gave up a future first to move up to draft Mahomes. That one hasn’t aged well.

It will be fun watching Toure matching up against the EIU point guard, the way he plays defense and gets into the head of the point guard and taking him out of his game just kills an offense that is led by their point like EIU.
The difference in the game was coming out and hitting our first five 3 pointers the 2nd half, we made a statement that we were not going to go away and Purdue better pick it up, which they couldn't do.

This was awesome today. For those of us that were there in the 80's, Johnny was great . . . . at home. We struggled to beat a wet mop on the road back then. It is twice as nice when the beat down is in their house.

Johnny Orr and the Cyclones beat #2 Purdue in West Lafayette in 1987. They had that in the broadcast. It stands as the only time Purdue scored 90+ and lost. We didn't ALWAYS lose on the road.

Hitting shots is the name of the game, but I thought the defense was the difference maker. Our guys were just relentless. Purdue just couldn't play at a high enough level for long enough and got out of their game. "More than anything, I think they stole our spirit,"

I love Nelson’s aggressiveness and fearlessness. He will make mistakes that drive us crazy but the dude is relentless. TJ will use him in exactly the right moments as he will with Batemon when maybe three point shooting is needed more. If everyone on the team is all bought in this team can be special
It'll vary game to game, and opponent, but vs. Purdue he entered lineup and it changed the "type" of player Purdue had to stop, had several good drives & got to the line. It's a different dynamic than Toure or Lipsey.
