Matt Campbell to Penn State??

If Matt Campbell leaves Iowa State for another Division I college football job, the school is entitled to a $2 million buyout from his new employer. On the other hand, if Iowa State fires him without cause, Campbell would receive $35.4 million as of December 2025.

Only 2 Mill? WTF. Fusker coach Matt "greasy" Rhule has a 15 Mill buyout!

Still don’t understand being mad at him. Everyone changes jobs. Coaches all use the same language, culture, trust the process, all of that. He’s a coach. They sell everyone that stuff. He took a higher paying better job. Something most of us would do in his situation.
I understand people feel mad or betrayed. What I don't understand is why anyone thought he was actually going to retire in Ames. He's been super loyal to ISU honestly. This is probably one of only a handful of jobs he'd leave for. Ive always thought that if Penn State or Ohio State came offering he'd leave.

he waited until the last moment which completely screwed us over. We'd be in a MUCH better position if he did this 6 weeks ago. But apparently he loves being sloppy 6ths

The alternative was probably him going to USC 4 years ago. Would you have preferred that?

Thamel says it is an 8 year deal. Total $$$ number is going to be huge.

People are allowed to feel what they want. Frankly, I don't understand why you wouldn't be mad about this. This has the potential to be a very detrimental thing for our football program. It's a big ******* deal and it sucks.
Yeah, and if Mouser is JPs guy now we really are cooked.

Probably one of Pollard's biggest errors agreeing to lower that the last extension.

Because there’s not a poster here who wouldn’t take more than double your pay for a more prestigious job, with more resources, at a place closer to your roots that is near and dear to your heart.

My personal opinion is this.

I'm really mad, frustrated, angry about the situation and wish he would stay.
I would expect him to stay, I'd expect him to do what he thought was best for him and his family. I don't have to like his choice though.
If he signed on the dotted line with PSU before talking to his team (his 2nd family), he's a hypocritical jackass.
If he's talking to his team before he officially signs on the dotted line, I can respect that a little bit.

"Guys, you have heard a lot of chatter the past few days. Yes, a program presented a strong offer. But I am staying! I am staying to continue to make us the best version of ourselves."
That’s one good thing about him going. When we won his coach speak was tolerable. When we lost, especially when it was to someone we should have beat, his coach speak was irritating as ****! So there’s that

I wonder how a lot of people now feel about Matt? Those saying... "it's not like Matt at all to ghost all these good friends, and players, coaches of his, etc". CW included.

Maybe Matt wasn't the person you thought you knew all this time... and is just a REALLY good used car salesman like most of these head coaches are?
