I never said he would ever even be offered those jobs. He would certainly fit better at ND IMO. Ohio State is a different style.
I just know he views all other jobs as lateral at best.
USC was close, Penn State may be close.
I just go by what I know to have been true.
As Twin said above, things can certainly change, but I haven’t heard they will.
To be very clear: I am coming from a 100% ignorant rube perspective.
This may also be a bit of projection on my part, but my read is that the prestige, recent success, and expectation of continued success at those schools would be a turnoff.
While Penn State has all the ingredients to compete for a national title every single year they’ve only won two of them, and the last was when Campbell was in kindergarten.
It is a weird thing to say about them, but there is an opportunity to actually
build something and leave a mark. I mean, they haven’t really been
Penn State for a quarter century or longer.
Even though ND probably
should be seen the same, the perception just seems different.
Unless OSU jumps from the Big 10 to the AFC North that just seems like a job with nice benefits.
Add to it that if you love Ames like it seems his family might then State College would suit them well. Maybe South Bend is similar, but Columbus is definitely more of a city.
