Matt Campbell to Penn State??

Those two places are insane.

I moved to Pittsburgh as a teenage college freshman during Cower’s 2nd season.

Mike Tomlin is the only coach the Stillers have hired since then…and I’m closing in on retirement.
They've had 3 head coaches in the last 56 years. That's crazy.

Doesn't look good for the good guys from my view. Heacock is gone after this year correct? It would make a move easier.

Rumor is he's been flirting with retirement for the last couple of seasons. Nothing certain yet I don't think.

I never said he would ever even be offered those jobs. He would certainly fit better at ND IMO. Ohio State is a different style.

I just know he views all other jobs as lateral at best.

USC was close, Penn State may be close.

I just go by what I know to have been true.

As Twin said above, things can certainly change, but I haven’t heard they will.
To be very clear: I am coming from a 100% ignorant rube perspective.

This may also be a bit of projection on my part, but my read is that the prestige, recent success, and expectation of continued success at those schools would be a turnoff.

While Penn State has all the ingredients to compete for a national title every single year they’ve only won two of them, and the last was when Campbell was in kindergarten.

It is a weird thing to say about them, but there is an opportunity to actually build something and leave a mark. I mean, they haven’t really been Penn State for a quarter century or longer.

Even though ND probably should be seen the same, the perception just seems different.

Unless OSU jumps from the Big 10 to the AFC North that just seems like a job with nice benefits.

Add to it that if you love Ames like it seems his family might then State College would suit them well. Maybe South Bend is similar, but Columbus is definitely more of a city.

That’s what has me whistling past the graveyard thinking about Ferentz’s impending retirement.

They already stole the Stillers uniforms. They better not steal their coaching hire success too.

Kalshi is interesting to watch, but you tend to get a lot of short term spikes. Just look at the graphs of some the different names on the Penn St. search. Once there starts to be movement they can really spike when everyone starts jumping in based on the momentum and not much of anything else.

Oh correct.

Shares are trading.

Seems like the #1 lesson in all of this is that the Penn State AD probably ought to be fired. How do you can Franklin and not have your next coach selected? There was no need to can him so early if you didn't have your crap together.
Agreed ,

However, when you are in a state of delusion, thinking you’re have one of the best jobs in the country, when you don’t, things go south quickly.

Giving in immediately to public pressure is a very bad look for an AD once things turn to hiring a new coach.

Actually, the more I think about it, it’s a combination of Penn State delusion and the rest of CFB ponying up to keep talented coaches and players in a new landscape where the money flows.

No way, 10-15 years ago do all of those offered the PSU job turn it down.

But they all got shiny new contracts.

I've heard that Penn State thought they had Sitake from BYU and were waiting until after the Big 12 Championship game to make it official. Then Sitake got the big raise and decided to stay at BYU instead. Now I don't know why anyone would want to take the job. With Franklin taking most of the recruits and signing day past, the cupboard is bare. Whoever takes this job will be starting from scratch.
