Blum said last night if it comes down to Liberty and Rate, Iowa State would prefer to “drop down” to the Rate. I’m inferring that they’re being open about that behind the scenes. Of course, it’s still up to the bowl boards. Could Iowa State get a better invite than either of those, I suppose, but I don’t see it happening.

As an aside, while bowl projections are all guesses, I think the fact that no outlet or reporter has Iowa State playing Nebraska does mean it’s unlikely. Apparently I’m in the minority here but I wouldn’t want to anyway

If the Liberty Bowl didn't learn from their mistake the last time they chose us, when literally no one went, then I'm not sure if they have brains. If they choose Iowa State again, the only people going will be the team, band, and spirit squads.

Wonder anymore how much weight they put on the teams fans showing up vs. what type of TV draw/rating will that team bring? Feels like for these bowl games the tv rating is getting more and more important.

Depends on the Bowl.

As a host city, the bowls that Iowa State has been to recently….

Orlando
San Antonio
Memphis

All really take pride in their bowls and put on a great show for the fans.

Phoenix is kinda ho hum.

well if they truly factored that in, then Memphis would not have been picked to play us two years ago....an SEC fan base is always going to outdraw Memphis when ratings are considered

Not sure how much weight what Iowa State wants matters.

If BYU makes the playoff its more likely we play in Memphis
