National Duals Invitational

Would love to know what everyone's thoughts are on this takedown. I definitely didn't think this was control, same with the earlier call for Lockett. Thoughts?

Even though I loved the call, I don't think that there was control. The head and arm were still locked up by Iowa.

I thought it was clear control for a takedown. Once the action paused and it was clear they were not going to roll through, the takedown was established. Hips were covered. Caliendo was on his belly. Boots were in and locked.

The thing with that Caliendo/Lockett match is, I think Caliendo is who he is (aka how much will he get better now to March?). Similar to Plott last year, he’s very good but just a notch below Mess…still probably a top 4 lock at NCAAs.

I say that to say this, Lockett should only get better this year and could put himself in contention with Mesenbrink.

Iowa wrestling has shifted to try to win 4-1 in OT. Sit on the opponents ankle on top and stall every chance you can get. What a boring style of wrestling.
yeah endene looked better than expected and kennedy is tough as nails but they were all wrestling tight matches

Agree. Once that far leg is in, it’s control. This is how it’s called in a whizzer position all the time.

In those situations once you get a boot in it’s a TD or at least that’s what I’ve seen in the past so I believe it was the right call but I could very well see another ref saying no because MC had the head and arm.

Not sure the caliber of endenes opponent, but he got away with some poor positioning with sheer athleticism. There is usually a limit to how far that goes. Personally wasn't too impressed. Only watched the osu dual so maybe he was consistently good all weekend.

He went 4-0 on the weekend.

Pinned a top 15 guy and beat another top 10.

None were against elite competition but he’s definitely better than I expected. Like you said, explosive athlete but not positionally sound.

Really wish we could have participated in this. Worries me that we will be going into the Iowa dual with less competition under our belts than Iowa.
I always worry about this and then it seems like teams who take it easy early generally reap the benefits... idk it does still worry me too.
