Sounds like Rhoades has some anger issues. According to the Athletic article the sideline incident isn't the only one of late.

He's also the College Football Playoff Committee Chair:

A sideline argument? This is mild behavior for Baylor. Usually they're murdering their teammates or covering up campus rapes.
Over a stupid thing too:

"According to the source, during the first quarter, Rhoades grabbed Trigg by the shirt on the sideline and, while using an expletive, questioned why he was wearing it. The rest of the team was wearing dark-colored undershirts.

Members of the coaching staff, including head coach Dave Aranda and tight ends coach Jarrett Anderson, later had heated words with Rhoades about the incident, the source said. The incident had a lingering impact on Trigg that day, according to the source.

“Trigg got rattled,” the source said. “It kind of (messed) him up.”

Awful. No student athlete should ever have to put up with that nonsense.

As an AD, why are you on the sidelines, and why are you saying anything other than "good job" to a player?
There are other avenues for micromanaging, like bothering the coaches with an email and appearance later.

A little more context on top of that:

"Trigg’s father, Michael Trigg Sr., said his son wore the yellow undershirt because he had a shoulder injury and the long-sleeved shirt covered his brace."

Too much money involved now

Hope he gets the help he needs. There is usually an underlying cause that leads to anger like this. But understanding the root cause and how to handle it can be quite tricky.

This is where my mind is. Rhoades has always been HIGHLY respected as being both strategically smart as well as being good with boosters. Interviews I have heard with him, he seemed pretty sharp (unlike most ADs).

I wonder if stress, pressure, (or maybe booze) has got to him. Yelling at a kid about his shirt? That's not an anger issue per se. That's a cry for help when your mental/emotional tolerance is blown up.

I could see a booze problem, at a "baptist" university, being the kind of thing they don't want to talk about in public and want him to get some help.

Wonder what old Smoaky will have to say about it on Baylor365?
