Creighton exhibition discussion (see post 178 for Jake's link)

Shooting is a major concern for this team. We basically have none at all if Milan isn't on fire... and tonight he was beyond awful... 0-7 from 3... 4-21 I think from the floor overall. I'm not sure if anyone else really looked capable??

Creighton got 27 pts from 3... we got zero. I know it's just one game... so need to calm down a bit... but we didn't seem to recruit any shooters once again, and went all on defense.
It's not even one game

The spread 'em and shred em' with quick passes then three pointers and backcuts is the evolution of college offenses now (think BYU or Creighton when they were rolling tonight). I am hoping we can adopt some of this, but dependable shooters will be needed badly in order to do so.

I do hate when we fail to pack any offense for a major road trip though...especially at tournament time.

I do want to believe that tonight's 23-0 run was TJ hoping to see if anyone would take the wheel and make a play to stop their run. Instead, we learned that a TO is needed a lot earlier to break that kind of momentum.

Never thought I'd live long enough to see a TJ team give up 46 points in one half. That's the game right there, folks. I give credit to Creighton's coaching staff on how to attack our traps.

Will be interesting to see the adjustments we make when we play them for real in a month.
Umm..you saw us give up more than 46 points in a half multiple times last year, including 2 of the last 3 games.

Wait, when has Tamin ever been good at breaking down a defense? I mean, he’s good at getting to the rim and a good defender, but I wouldn’t call him a creator.
He may not be Jason Kidd, but he gets inside the defense when he wants to and passes well when he creates an advantage. Whatever the case may be, it's quite obvious that his presence is extremely important to this team, and we're undeniably a different team without him on the court.

I couldn't tell on my screen who was playing PG last night and haven't really looked at who's who for new guys much outside of Batemon but either way I wouldn't take least night to mean much for what guys can do as the season goes along.

People wrote Heise off by like January last year and one could argue he was in the running for MVP late.

Game stats look pretty damping.
Why can't we hit threes or get any assists?

79% of our returning 3 pointers last year were from Milan, which makes things pretty simple for the defense. The only newcomer we have that can make threes is a Freshmen who is probably going need some time to get comfortable playing at this level.

I really wouldn't expect this offense to get "fixed" quickly - they're built more like TJ's first two years than last two. Win by playing bully ball and score a bunch of points off turnovers.

What I don’t get is the Milan hype. Yeah, he can light it up at times. And he can dominate smaller or slower players. But man, our last two tourney losses he’s had some pretty ugly games. And this was another one. He’s not athletic enough to be a consistent scorer against good teams. Not saying he can’t score on good teams…when his shot is on, he’ll score on anyone. But when it’s not, he’s not quick enough to create shots closer to the rim.

After reading some comments on here, one thing is apparent - TJ needs to just forfeit the season, and probably step down as HC. He’s clearly(?) run out of gas, and the rot..err blight, has definitely set in
To me, comments like this are always amongst the most worthless in threads.

Granted - the comment about not being able to wait until Milan is gone is indeed dumb. Beyond that I’m seeing mostly valid concerns.

It’s a sports forum. Concerns over a blowout loss will happen. It’s ok. Join the conversation by debating the results instead of mocking those with opposing views.

No, comments like yours and people freaking out over one exhibition game are more worthless. It’s okay to think man I hope this isn’t how we play all year but not to post it 12 times and say you are so worried about the season after one game where we are breaking in a lot of new faces.

Disparaging individual players habitually including calling them bums etc. is actually the most worthless kind of poster, add in they only seem to show up if things aren't going well to air their grievances.

And it's not really a conversation or debate if the 'conversation' is only doom based off of not even a half of basketball in October.

Who is freaking out??? Where is this supposed freak out? I watched a basketball game and made observations, good and bad.

This team shares many of the same attributes as the second half of last year’s team based on the bodies we have. There isn’t getting around that in my mind. Scrimmage doesn’t “count” but it sure as hell confirmed that concern.
