*** Official #22 IOWA STATE vs Colorado Game(Day) Thread ***

Being able to use money to replace Higgins and Noel's replacement as well as bringing in a better RB is killing us. And don't get me wrong I like Sama and Hansen but they are a full 2 notches below a guy like Breece Hall.
Breece Hall may not have made it to ISU in the world of NIL. That's where we are at unfortunately

It’s holding if it occurs before the ball was thrown. If it’s after the ball is thrown it’s PI. And if it’s after the ball is thrown and it’s deemed to be uncatchable it’s nothing. Like it or not, that’s the rule, and no, Brahmer had zero chance to stop turnaround and come back six yards and make a play all while the ball was in the air on a fastball that travelled like 8-10 yards, whether he was tackled or not touched at all.

The holding occurred after the ball was thrown. So it can’t be defensive holding. It would have to be PI.
Have often have you seen a PI get waved off because the ball was uncatchable? It happens but is very rare, it when the ball is well over someone's head, that was not the case here. If the ball had been thrown short and I am holding you not allowing you to come back to the ball and it lands 3 feet in front of me, its not an uncatchable pass because I did not allow you to come back to the ball. Whether Brahmer had a chance to come back and make the catch does not matter, the DB was grabbing him and throwing him to the ground before the ball was intercepted. That is all the matters, it's hard to say it was uncatchable when the ball was intercepted right in front of him.

Overall I like our scheme defensively. I like having more guys on the back end and as long as you fill the gaps I don't think the D in this instance is a problem. If you move one of the linebackers up to play the run here the other linebacker probably gets beat on a slant. Not giving up big plays and playing the % that if the offense runs 10+ plays or more on a given drive they'll mess up has worked.
A defense with arguably our three best players on that side of the ball out once Orange went down held CU to 24 including a possession that started deep in ISU territory.

It wasn’t great, and last week was bad. that busted coverage shouldn’t happen regardless of how deep you’re going. But man, the offense putting up 17 against a bad and depleted CU defense was a killer.

If Orange is out or going to be in and out of the lineup, the defense isn’t going to be great. Offense is going to have to pull more than their share moving forward every game if they are going to win.

While true, Ashton Jeanty made it and stayed at Boise State in the world of NIL
Think Breece had a much better offer sheet out of high school. Genty had 1 P4, KU?

And Genty I think had a 2 million or near 2 NIL his last year. So he did okay :-). But he probably could have got more you are right

Maybe the ceiling has been reached as a football program. Can only go so far with three-star recruits if you can't spend big $ in the portal.

You know, not aimed at you specifically.......but why when things are going good money is never the reason. But when things start tanking........Matt just needs more money. ISU isn't playing Texas, Alabama, Ohio State. You cannot point to money as the problem when you lose to teams like Cincy and a 2-4 Colorado team. I can understand the injury problem.......a bit. But not money. Not today. That is a p*** poor excuse for a p*** poor performance. No amount of money can make that turd a diamond.

Yes, if the ball landed 3 feet in front of him of course it would’ve been deemed catchable and PI would be upheld. But the ball was in the air. Brahmer was 5 yards deep and still on his way deeper. The ball was intercepted at the 1.

So if you think Brahmer could stop, turn around and run the 6-8 yards back to the ball to make a play all whike the ball is already in the air. Im no physicist, but I know he’s not doing that, nor is any human in history.

It looks bad. And they could have huge latitude and deeming it a catchable ball and Is be OK with that too. But it wasn’t catchable by Brahmer if zero contact had occurred once the ball was in the air.

The offense is the main problem.

There is inconsistency at every level, from the backups to the coaching and everything in between.

The glaring problem has been obvious head scratchers in the red zone and it’s magnified when we can’t kick a FG over 30 yards.

NIL is ruining the sport IMO… we clearly can’t compete with dollars… by the way tear grape gone wild ads are pissing me off… but at least the days of losing 51-7 appear to be over. That’s a plus. We are a couple of plays away from 7-0… and we should be …

So we aren’t spending as much as Arky State, Cincinnati, and Colorado.

Final thoughts for the night. Our margins are so slim. Were last year too, but we found a way to pull out almost every close game. The Big 12 is a very competitive league, with very few easy ones (but less really hard ones). These last two weeks were games we should have won, but also ones that you can definitely lose if you're not on your game.

Not all is lost, but the conference title and playoff hopes are almost certainly gone. I'm encouraged that Heacock seems to have the defense reformulated, and that we have a very, very capable offense. IMO that offense needs to be turned loose and get more aggressive. The best way they can help the defense is by scoring lots of points.

Hopefully through the bye week, we can get a little healthier (especially with Konrardy) and find our center, and finish strong. a 9-3 or 8-4 finish would not be the end of the world.

Good heavens, some of the stretches being made here about “uncatchable” are enough to make Konrardy pull another hammy.

- Brahmer was pulled forward into the end zone and down the ground. It looked like maybe he was trying to push off the DB and come back towards Rocco, but the DB didn’t let him.

- The Colorado player may have picked the pass at the 1, but he was leaping to tip it to himself. The ball wasn’t landing on the 1, it would have landed in the end zone - and without being prevented by the DB and/or having the ball intercepted, I can’t say with certainty that Brahmer wouldn’t have been able to get a hand on it.

- The mere fact of having a pass intercepted in front of the receiver doesn’t immediately make the pass “uncatchable” - nor does it cancel out pass interference if that interference occurred before the interception (which it absolutely did in this case).

Rocco threw a bad pass, I admit that 100% … but I have never seen a flag picked up for an uncatchable ball when it didn’t sail 8 feet over the receiver’s head. I think, without any evidence but my suspicion, that it wasn’t deemed “uncatchable” at all, but the official determined the contact between Brahmer and the DB before the interception was “equal handfighting” and they were just going to let it go. I don’t agree with that explanation, by the way (the defense should never be allowed to get away with tackling a receiver with the ball in the air), but that’s what I think might have happened.

What is the injury status on the Big Citrus? I didn't see him al all in the 2nd half.

Who did you think reaggrevate was referring to? Lipsey will be back before conference play, I’m talking about a total gut punch once things get rolling

I’m sympathetic to this argument except I think there’s enough talent on the offense to have won one of the last two. Some combination of play calling and personnel aren’t getting the job done when it comes to putting points on the board

umm... "reaggravating" would be if he reinjured his groin. the knee injury is new. so no - it's not the same thing.

He’s clearly been hurt since the Arizona game when he also got hurt playing meaningless snaps. Total non factor last week and then went down multiple times today. Sure he’ll be back after the bye week but I’m sure nowhere near 100%

You're right. He's been toughing it out but was not 100% today, even prior to today's injury.

I was a little harsh on the 3rd down QB draw call.

It was very dumb, but in retrospect , the “call” per se wasnt the entirety…..but the formation and subsequent execution out of that formation……then followed up with the decision to punt.
