*** Official 2025 Chicago Cubs Thread***

Looks like 4 pm it is. Although that Dodgers bullpen can blow some leads.

Three days in a row after throwing two innings today. That'd be tempting fate on his arm holding up.
They'll throw 3 days if game is close. Its win or a winters rest.

Feel like Cubs need to be up a couple runs after 5.

Also think starters will have quick hook for both teams, a key bullpen guy for San Diego could be Michael King. If Darvish falters early, the Padres might need 3-4 innings from King.

This series is over.

How bad was the rest of the NL to let a team like the Reds in the playoffs?
Playoff baseball and regular season baseball are different animals.

I might rephrase your question, how good are the Dodgers as a playoff team? Pretty elite group of hitters and SP.

Conversely, the Cubs are built to make the playoffs, maybe win a series. Hopefully, today is MAYBE.

Yup, it's win today or your season is done so both teams will be throwing the kitchen sink at each other if needed. There is no point in resting your best arms today if you don't have another game after this. The good thing for the Cubs is if they can get a late inning lead Palencia, Keller, and Pomeranz did not throw yesterday so they are rested and have Rea available out of the bullpen too if Taillon gets into any trouble early. Civale has not pitched an inning yet either.

100%. I still have nightmares about Lou pulling Zambrano early so he'd be good for Game 5.

Obviously have to win today but if we do advance who do you think goes Game 1 vs. Brewers on Saturday? Boyd on short rest? Rea if he doesn't pitch today? Assad?

I would think it would be Rea. Assad has been shaky and pitching on short rest usually doesn't go well.

Ben Brown :jimlad:

Although his two career starts at American Family Field:
2024- 7.0 IP, 0 hits, 2 walks, 10 K's
2025- 6.0 IP, 4 hits, 0 walks, 4 K's

Boyd didn't throw much on Tuesday, so I wouldn't be shocked to see him go Game 1 so they also have him in Game 4, which then would give you Imanaga in Game 2 and 5, and Taillon in Game 3. The alternative is Assad/Rea in Game 1, Boyd Game 2, Imanaga Game 3, Taillon Game 4, Boyd Game 5.

The schedule is Game 1 Saturday, Game 2 Monday, Game 3 Wednesday, Game 4 Thursday, Game 5 Saturday.

I would go Assad/Rea, Boyd, Taillon and figure it out from there.

Can't justify short rest for any of our guys, imo. Much rather have Assad than Boyd on short rest.

I sure hope we win, but if we do lose it's fitting to lose to a team structured like the Padres. They've emphasized aggression in going for established players and trading for elite arms, while using their farm system to supplement. I sure wish we had a FO that would think like that.
