Poor old Nebraska

Meanwhile in Iowa City

It should be interesting to see if Gronk is the next big thing or he goes bust. I’m guessing he has it easy against Albany Junior High but gets crushed when he comes to Ames.

I get its easy and fun to dunk on Debby; but how is this not a dark cloud in the horizon for ISU? NEB is much more cash flow rich and is still giving not great optimism about paying players and facilities. That's a harbinger to me. As I said, its just not been as public as NEB just did

Oh, it is coming. Don't kid yourself. I do think in Iowa you are going to see more private schools close down first but ISU sees a storm coming.

The majority of Nebraska’s top ten players for 2026 have committed to Iowa State, according to 24/7. Who could have predicted that 30 years ago.
I don’t think Nebraska offered a single one of those players. They aren’t that highly ranked, but I think it’s a mistake by Nebraska to not recruit the better players in state.

They recruit nationally ya know. Only loser schools like ISU wrap up the creme of the talent in their back yard. Just ask coach 0-11 against top 20 Rhule.

It’s a shame we don’t have this Nebraska on the schedule

This is why they wanted to leave the Big 12. Move before they were a has-been.

They no longer could compete with the southern schools, so they needed to get a schedule like the BIG West and the BIG paycheck

I agree with the first paragraph.

Kinda agree with the second; removing partial qualifiers (driving by texa$) pissed them off but also what I think is the real reason....

Paragraph three I diagree with; anyone being asked into the BIG then or now would take it. Southern schools or not for them. Easy Schedule or not. BIG $$ and its safety was the reason for the move. We would have too.

Last week University of Nebraska proposed cutting 6 majors, saving them $20.1 million, and what is the NIL limit? Also cutting $6.75 million in administrative costs. A university degree you can be proud of!

How are they so short on money?
Don't think they are related. More so political than athletic (ie. lack of state help and soft enrollment).

As I stated in other threads...the same thing will happen at ISU, it's just been more public and sooner in Nebraska for some reason. They waffled on there stadium renovations and are now cutting academics. Most big state schools will see a similar fate, unfortunately

They lost what 3k students in enrollment? That’s a good 30MM tuition loss. If they haven’t adjusted their staffing to accommodate a 15% student reduction, there is the basic issue right there.

Nebraska deservedly gets ripped on as they are a local rival and left the Big 12. I'll give them credit however for not overly gloating or belittling the Big 12 like you get from Oklahoma, Texas, A&M, or Mizzou. I'm not saying there are not those that do it, but I would venture the % is a lot lower than those other schools.

I do think Nebraska takes considerable step considering where they've been. As much as I hate to say it. Schedule is pretty manageable and think Raiola is going to be pretty good moving forward. I think they finish 9-3. Hope I'm wrong
Honestly, I think Raiola is the most overrated QB in the P4.

He can't make intermediate or deep throws with any consistency whatsoever. He basically just dumps the ball off on short routes and his mobility and speed is very average too, which was evident in the Michigan game.

Take away the lucky Hail Mary and a complete busted coverage in that game and Raiola's stats were awful. And a true Freshman QB for Mich (Underwood) totally outplayed him.

I don't follow it really closely but I think its due to higher costs, less public funding, and lower attendance.
Luckily ISU attendance remains good but we are still very affected by the other two.
