*** Official #14 IOWA STATE vs Arkansas State Game(Day) Thread ***

It's a bye week so this stinker will fester for 2 weeks eating away into the center of the teams core leaving a gaping hole that can never be filled.

Or they'll forget about it by Wednesday and hopefully move on. Maybe the above was more about me.

They'll probably forgot about it like now and start to work on improving on bad trends.

Bye week last I knew is generally used for honing in on fundamentals, healing up, etc. and then the next week is regular game prep.

Last week, you questioned those who were giving respect to ASU. I think you said "This is a game we should win big and will win big. There is nothing scary about this game."

Next time you might want to ease up on those who actually respect a G5 opponent.

They suck and there was nothing scary about them. Our game plan made it be closer than it should have been,

I think it was Monte Morris who said his rule was to be upset about a bad game until midnight. After that, learn from it and move onto the next one.

You actually think that Ark State is good? They aren't. They got ran over by a crappy Arkansas team. Our coaches decided to have a practice for the WRs rather than just steamrolling them with the running game like Arkansas did.
No, I think it’s college football. There’s variance in the quality of play of 18-22 year olds

We don’t have the talent that allows us to play poorly and not be in a dogfight

And I agree with CMC- that QB was better than the first 3, particularly in terms of stressing our defense

Thank goodness for that suspect holding call on what would have been an Ark St TD for the lead in the 3rd quarter

No, I don't think ASU is that good, but I know that in college football if you don't respect the opponent (even an out manned G5 opponent), you can easily get beat. You see it almost every week.

I don't think our issue last Saturday was lack of respect for the opponent or our coach's game plan. I think we were just a little mentally and physically exhausted after a couple of months of going hard every day, playing our two biggest rivals in the first 3 games, and starting off overseas. And I think ASU was about as hyped for this home game against a P4 opponent as you can be.

The good news is we still found a way to win. The good news also is that it really doesn't matter whether us fans are overconfident. The only thing that matters is what the guys in the locker room think.

What if I don't respect any of our opponents?

A more dominant (score wise) game would have been preferred Saturday....but, Arkansas is pretty good and since you played I'd think you'd have experience with how things can change one week to the other.

Didn't you play in 2001?

What happened at (1-10) Ohio that season?

Yeah, I have the distinct impression that if we had stuck to the ground game and easy passes to the tight ends, with the random deep shot, we would have ground them into the dust by the 4th quarter.

He restricted him from the ball carrier going right by. Now was it egregious. Absolutely not, but there were tons of holding in that game not called.

If anyone expects Cyclone fans to feel sorry for anyone that may or may not have been screwed by refs, don’t hold your breath.

Honestly, we really weren't that good. We beat the bad teams and got smoked by good teams. We were lucky to not have to play OU, Texas and TT that year.

To further my point there was 12 minutes to go if I’m not mistaken , Im guessing Rocco time would have happened and things would have worked out anyway.
That would have made it 20-17 instead of 16-17 so it would have made the final 24-20 vs 24-16.

Also the "2 second half tds taken off by penalties" were back to back on the same drive, so it's definitely misleading to insinuate, as the article does, that they could have scored 2 tds instead of 2 FGs.

Beating a terrible MAC team by 3 but then having a chance against like ATM or handling other average B12 teams is still the example of 'last week this happened, doesn't mean it stays that way' is all I'm saying.
