*** Official #14 IOWA STATE vs Arkansas State Game(Day) Thread ***

I love it when someone dumbs a post and then gets so butt hurt when it happens back that they have to make post addressing it. You can dumb my opinion all you want…I don’t feel dumb for not thinking we should be ranked in the top 10. Sorry it bothered you so much.
Not butt hurt at all. Just passionate about how dumb it is. That is all. I would welcome a top 10 cyclone squad and you should too!

Not that it really matters, but I think we’ll stay around the same spot. Notre Dame lost but I don’t think they’ll fall below us. South Carolina and Clemson will fall below us so that’s +2. But I think we get jumped by A&M and Ole Miss. So I predict 14 again.

There’s no way you can have a yet 0-2 team above a 4-0 team. I don’t care that they played better teams than us, you still have to win. They should still probably be ranked but somewhere like 23.

I haven't read everything yet, but has it been reported that any of the LB's were having cramping issues? The reason I asked is it seemed to me (could be wrong as I only watched the game once, late after many beverages) that Goodwin and Lovitt played a lot more than Bacon and Ebel and they are simply not as good. Maybe it was the heat?
I haven’t seen that reported. But Patton was hurt during the game and I’m pretty sure that was cramping.

I didn’t mention Patton or James in my kudos to the secondary, but I thought they were good too.

Rocco being hot and cold.
Not running the ball more when it was working.
MULTIPLE special teams errors.
Giving up long painful drives because they could NOT stop Ark St on 3rd and long many times.
Running QB causing fits when we have better ones coming.

MAYBE, HOPEFULLY, it was just an off game caused by the schedule and the heat. And on a day when they didnt have their fastball they did find a way to win against a frisky opponent.

And give Ark St some credit- they got embarassed last week and appear to have played a lot better.

But idk how you couldnt be concerned. They just need to play better, or any CCG or CFP hopes will not be realized. That comment i made about not having their fastball- said same about the Iowa game... they need to get that fastball back.

I could totally whiff and will get killed for this but I don't feel concerned because I think even if they get things cleaned up they're not a CFP team.

Team speed will be the culprit above all else, particularly in the defensive front.

I'd guess 8-9 wins which imo is still a fun season.

*I might also just kind of feel 'meh' about college football in general with how watered down things feel.

Yeah possibly. I think they fall to 12-13, just given who they lost to and the quality of games. I could also see Bama jumping us, but I don’t think that will happen either.

But most likely outcome is 13-15 then.

Even when your 3+ touchdown favorites and supposedly a playoff team? Barely squeaking by against a sunbelt team that just got blown out by Arkansas? Yes, a win can still be embarrassing. If you don’t think this will be used against us come December you will be sorely mistaken.
You’re worrying about December. Let’s just enjoy September and October first. And this game will be irrelevant by the time we get there. They’ll look for any reason to leave us out. If not this, it’ll be that we played a FBS team or we squeaked by a bad Iowa team. Doesn’t matter so don’t let it bother you.

All we can control is what we do. Just win, baby.

I'm sorry to break this to you, but the Big 12 is a one bid league unless both teams enter the CCG 12-0. I personally don't think this team is good enough to run the entire conference schedule, therefore games like this are completely meaningless in the grand scheme of things.

The conference schedule is much more difficult than it was last year and got some lucky bounces in the UCF and Utah games to even be in that position.
Yeah I think in the unlikely scenario that someone runs the table to go 12-0 and loses in the title game, that team would make the playoffs as an at large. It just doesn’t seem likely to me that anyone runs the table this year.

I thought the secondary was nails. Bell and Cooper were studs today. Williams had good coverage on some balls too.

LBs were really bad. In coverage, gap assignment, and pursuit angle. They looked good in the first quarter, but after that they looked so slow and undisciplined. I’ll just chalk it up to heat and fatigue, but that Arizona game is going to be tough.
We need Willich back so badly. Goodwin is awful, and after 4 games I don’t want to see him on the field anymore.

Concern is fine, but I will hold off worrying too much for several reasons.

1. Almost every team has had issues after coming back from Ireland/Europe. Iowa State has been really good but it was bound to happen.
2. The hardest game to get pumped for BY FAR this year.
3. The heat was brutal, but teams need to work through that. Iowa State did and pulled out the win.
4. Great lesson in not being able to overlook anyone.
5. Great preparation for a running QB like Arizona's.
6. Iowa State went deep into their bench really early in the game. Might be a great lesson in not overlooking an opponent for the coaches as well.
7. I am probably overthinking this, but I wonder if they have a plan to contain a QB like that which they didn't want to put on tape for Arizona.

Notre Dame still has Arkansas and USC on their schedule, there is a chance they lose both of those, Arkansas played a ranked team close and USC is undefeated granted against not the best competition. Honestly I’ll be shocked if Notre Dame isn’t a 3 loss or worse team

I actually agree with this. Notre Dame has a couple landmines remaining (add in Boise and NC State) and no margin for error anymore.

But that won’t be reflected in this week’s rankings. Maybe in the almighty ESPN FPI

He went in the medical tent then was done after that. After the game Campbell said he has been dealing with something for a couple weeks. Doesn’t sound like season ending major, but could be out for a little while maybe. Even small nagging injuries can mess with kickers
Probably doing kickoffs doesn’t help either. Nice to get Gilbert back, but at least we have a kicker still. Seems like the linebacker problem last year, started throwing warm bodies out there.

If there’s any teams that could possibly stay ranked in the top 15 at 0-2 (with two “good losses” of course) Notre Dame would be one of them.

I don’t think they’ll stay in the top 15 but I would not be shocked if they stay ranked.

It makes going undefeated a necessity. If we lose to TCU and still make the championship and lose this performance will eliminate us. If we took care of business the chances improve. It’s unfortunate but true. Big 12 isn’t viewed well nationally and today definitely didn’t help.

Find some Xanax and chill a bit.
