*** Official #14 IOWA STATE vs Arkansas State Game(Day) Thread ***

No excuses for that game. Our defense was poor situationally, not as a whole. Our offensive play calling in the first half was abysmal and almost cost us the game.

We need a bye week. Guys are banged up, maybe even injured, but two weeks should give us some time to get guys healthy and ready for the next 1/3 of the season.

Let’s just all be glad we won. Lots of good teams have lost inexcusable ones and we didn’t.

He has his moments, particularly late. But in 3 games against FBS opponents we have scored 24, 16, and 24. And then consensus seems to be that none of those opponents have been great teams. Starting to get concerned about our ability to generate offense going into B12 play. Gotta score enough to keep it close for Rocco to put on his cape in the 4th.

Betting odds don't make anything automatic but iirc ISU was picked at about 7.5 wins for the season so it's not unreasonable to assume they'll lose some conference games, regardless of how Rocco does.

Like when?
I can’t tell you the exact time on the clock when they happened but last week he had Overby on a slot fade in the first half and missed him, and then I think Overby again on a deep crosser in the second half and overthrew him again.

If he hits Eskildsen on the first play of the game it’s a touchdown. Not to mention he missed a wide open TD on the first drive that ended in a FG.

He’s just been a bit off to start the year.

It makes no sense to me. We are playing a team that gave up 300+ yards rushing to a ****** Arkansas team but we come out and throw 3 times in the first series and come out of halftime throwing.

The game plan should have been blast them running the ball.

2nd and goal on the 2, instead of pounding it in we try to get cute.

Hansen and Sama ate them up running straight ahead and quick runs between the tackles. Should have done even more of that.
I think Mouser is a good OC but he has a tendency to get too cute at times. Today definitely felt that way.

Of course, in our first 4 games last year we scored 21, 20, 52, 20, and went on to win 11 games. So who knows.

Out of all of that, Tre Bell’s interception was nothing short of phenomenal.
He's my game ball nominee. He easily could've just quit on the play and let the ball fall incomplete. A lot of DB's would've done just that.

To bust his ass like that and make a great INT at a critical time might turn out to be one of the most important plays of the season.

Someone needs to buy that kid a steak dinner tonight.

There were multiple plays where almost all of our DBs were playing like 7-10 yards off the ball.
And not just long yardage situations.
Idk wtf that was all about.
We made it so unbelievably easy on them, made me wanna pull my damn hair out.

2nd and goal on the 1 we pitch and fumble vs KSU. On 2nd and goal inside the 2 wtf we doing?

Overby dropped a pass in the end zone and Iowa had pretty good coverage for the most part.

Perhaps they score but they aren't 'walk in' TDs.

ISU's receivers imo are pretty good but he's not throwing to a Marvin Harrison Jr. out there.

They all do try to get too cute from time to time. They cannot help it. For goodness sakes, Bear Bryant use to get cute in games too, and it bit him in the ass from time to time like @ Nebraska in 1977, which was his only loss that year (24-31) when Jeff Rutledge threw 5 interceptions in a Wishbone Offense! Uh, those were his only 5 interceptions all year. Just sayin' that Mouser cannot help it! It's a football coach DNA thing. :)
