I think the bigger issue is that it's not reviewable, so the refs have to try to recreate it in their memory to make a decision. Everything happens too fast to follow who was being blocked, when the block ended, how much the momentum from the block moved him into the returner, etc. I know they try to keep most subjective calls out of review procedures, but like targeting, if they're going to give the opportunity to second guess the initial flag, they might as well base that on something they can watch carefully.
I think there's an alternate explanation - that McNamara and Gronowski are not lousy QBs, but their system destroys QBs, specifically their confidence and decision making. They aren't in a position to succeed and seem to be second guessing every throw or decision
Trade one of those first two FG's we kicked for a touchdown, and it's likely a comfortable lead going into the half. Specifically, if Overby catches that TD (immediately after the long Eskildsen catch), to make it 10-0 early in the 1st quarter, I think Iowa starts pressing on offense a little bit.
I don't know why some Hawkeye fans even dispute this. It is 100% confirmed by the slide in recruiting they've experienced on the offensive side of the ball.

Haven’t read the whole thread, so if not already mentioned can anyone explain why a walkon DB who doesn’t look particularly fast is one of the 2 deep guys on kick return? Letting that ball bounce at the 3 was awful. Could have cost us the game. We got a routine bounce that the other guy could field then Rocco made 3 or 4 great passes to get us out of that hole and flip the field.

We won't know anything about USC for a while yet likely. Lincoln Riley has that offense cooking again it seems like and they've got two bad teams coming up with Purdue/Michigan State. Got to see them during that Illinois/Michigan/Notre Dame stretch before knowing if Lincoln is going to be on the hot seat or not.
It was both that guy and X’s fault. The guy you mentioned is supposed to be a lead blocker essentially and X is supposed to be the one making the calls on whether he’s going to field the ball. If he doesn’t, I would guess it’s supposed to 100% be a fair catch. Looked to me like it was horrible communication and something that has to be fixed.
We know that Ferentz always loses in the Pacific time zone.
He is an okay QB, one that was in a great system for his skillset and he was also surrounded by higher level talent (when talking context of his FCS team compared to others).
Now he’s just an okay QB with some mediocre skill guys in a horrible offensive system.
I see no possible way they only lose 2 more games to finish 9-3. Where do their wins come from:
Guaranteed - UMASS
Probable - Michigan State, Minnesota? Rutgers?
Toss up - at Wisconsin
Slight underdogs - at Nebraska, Indiana
Minimal chance - Penn State, Oregon, at USC
I see 5-6 wins likely and to get more than that’s they’ll have to upset someone and beat ranked teams which they haven’t done in half a decade.

I think it comes down to that EIU harps over and over that they cannot make a mistake, if you are pushing the ball down the field, and throw ints. then you are not playing. So taking chances is not an option, it's playing it safe, punt and let the defense do their deal. They have gone through too many talented QBs, so it's not about talent level, it's a choice that the head coach is making.
Their WR talent level is MAC level talent, which you cannot blame the kids, why would any talented WR want to go to an offense that is always going to be run first, run second and then throw. The talented kids want the ball to showcase their talent, and you are not going to get in it in the ground and pound offense EIU runs.
