Twister Sister Summary - An Exercise in Matchups

It's a down week with the unknown lying before the Sisters. So, I decided to take a look at the four teams ISU could face based off of Charlie Creme's latest bracketology.

Hilton South ≠ Phog Allen East

Open Letter to The Beat Reporters

"Hilton South" is a well-established nickname for the T-Mobile Center. I have never heard it called "Phog Allen East" until this year (and only in a few articles this week). However, it crossed a line when I heard The Beat Reporters podcast casually calling it "Phog Allen East." That is unacceptable. I expect some lazy writer using AI to use the term, but I have higher expectations of our podcasters. In other words, don't defile the magic of Hilton South by letting a Big 12 wannabe team's knock-off version of our concept come out of your mouths.

I'm talking to you @JakeBrend @The Rob Gray and Ben Hutchens [I cant find Ben's username]

Youth sports business - viewed by Michael Lewis

Very interesting interview with author Michael Lewis (Moneyball, Blindside, many other best sellers).

Youth sports these days is pretty much professional, thus I posted in here. According to ML the total $ spent on youth sports in U.S. is greater than $ spent on professional sports.
Like a lot of people, he decrees the specialization, monetization and professionalization of youth sports.
He was a big Mike Leach fan and was going to basically live with him to get the inside on college football, then Leach passed away.

I first knew Lewis as a business book author (Big Short, Liar's Poker, Flash Boys). He is a fascinating guy.

Hodge

After looking at these numbers, I can see why Yonger is maybe not in the discussion right now. Messenbrink is a very clear favorite imo, and I just don't see him losing. Second right now is between Mendez and Barr. Forrest would be up there, but doesn't have as many matches. Plus he has no previous results to go off, and I think one thing considered in Hodge is past performance.

I'd go:
Messenbrink
Mendez
Barr
Haines
Bastida

Robin Williams Tunnel article from SFGate.com

Just saw on SFGate.com an article about the ten-year naming anniversary of the former Waldo Tunnel to the Robin Williams Tunnel. It is on US Hwy 101/CA Hwy1 just north of the Golden Gate Bridge in the Bay Area. Anyone who has driven through the tunnel on northbound 101 since 1979 has noticed the rainbow stripes adorning the entrance/exit. Williams was a local resident of SF and Marin County for decades until his death in 2014 (my mom would see him in restaurants occasionally in Sonoma County when we lived there). The article does a nice job of highlighting the history of both the tunnel itself, Williams and his time in the Bay Area, and the process of renaming the landmark after him. If you are familiar with any of that, it's a nice five-minute read.

(I was going to put this in the 2026 random subjects Off Topic thread, but couldn't find it for some reason, so I decided it might get more notice on its own.)
