Xavier Foster (part 2)

It seems like from the stuff I have read here and on that God-awful Iowa thread that Duke is his dream school. Why would Duke not have offered yet?

I imagine they'll wait to evaluate further until they can see him against real competition in AAU rather than waste their time watching him play 3A Iowa ball

That doesn't even make sense. Duke being his dream school has no bearing on whether Duke offers him.

Nothing against 3A teams, but it’s too bad there aren’t any legitimate prep schools nearby.

I did not indicate a correlation. I was merely wondering out loud why a kid of that recruit stature has not been offered. If one looks at his 247 profile Duke is involved but not offered.

Because the Dukes of the world can wait until the summer before their senior year to become seriously involved. If he committed to Duke today, he would probably end up being the recruit that Duke fans are least excited about when it's all said and done. He's good but he's not 'Coach K kissing my ass through 4 years of high school' good.

When discussing Duke offering Xavier I think it is relevant to remember that Duke's 2018 recruiting class consisted of the 1, 2, 5, 15 and 33rd rated recruits. Foster is currently ranked 26th in his class so he would fall halfway between Duke's last and second to last recruits if he had been in the 2018 class.

He's the #5 PF so Duke will likely be looking at 1-4 before they get to Xavier.

All numbers are 24/7 composite.

I do not have any inside info but there is a lot of "outside" info, you could call it. Twitter and the ISU media show he is in Ames all the time. He was at a women's basketball game a little while ago and he was just at the men's Kansas game. He stormed the field with Conditt when ISU football beat WV. He's also apparently dating an ISU cheerleader. Xavier's dad watched the ISU/WV football game on TV together in Ames (at Prohm's house?).
My goodness

FINDING XAVIER FOSTER
"Friday night, my 6-year-old daughter Collins and I made the four-hour drive from Kansas City to Oskaloosa (Iowa) High to see 7-foot junior Xavier Foster, who ranks No. 26 overall nationally.
If I was looking for highlights or big numbers, it wasn't the night to see him as Foster finished with eight points, 11 rebounds, four blocks and a pair of steals. But, I'm not really concerned with his stats right now because it's more about taking a look at where he can be three, four or five years down the road.
Foster looks to have grown to a legitimate 7-foot and moves incredibly well. In fact, he reminds me a lot of current Sacramento King Willie Cauley-Stein at the same age for his combination of size and agility. He gets off the floor quick for blocks and he can run. He missed a few jumpers, but his form looks clean. Once he faces competition and size on a regular basis, he should get more consistent with his offense. Bottom line, there's a lot of upside with Foster.
I'll have a full recruiting update on him later today, but he's very familiar with Iowa and Iowa State and has seen both officially and unofficially. He's also seen UCLA and USC officially with many others getting in touch."

I don't see the poster as saying this. The poster is presuming Foster is already good enough to have been offered by Duke and, therefore, since Foster wants to go there, he should already have been offered. A recruit's interest in a school certainly is A factor in whether a school offers and continues to pursue a recruit. If Foster has a history of saying he would never play for Duke or another school, those schools would certainly consider those statements before they offer and/or continue to pursue. At some point, you have to make a decision re: on which recruits you want to expend your limited resources.

Foster would be the perfect big man in the middle of our four-out, one-in style.

A developed junior or senior Conditt and Foster together would still allow that given their mutual inside-outside games... and that length on defense would be nightmarish.
It isn't much more than an hour from IC...
Actually 85 miles and 92 to Ames and not much more than 3 minute difference.

Iowa State: "It's also a place with a great atmosphere and the players are cool. Iowa and Iowa State have great atmospheres. When I was at Iowa State we stormed the field for a football game and that was awesome. It's a memory that is always going to stick with me."

RIVALS' REACTION, WHAT'S NEXT?
The thing with Foster is that he's not yet a finished product. He's still got to get more consistently productive and aggressive. But, he's showing signs of developing into an elite rim protector, has touch and guys with his size and ability to move laterally in space and run like he does aren't easy to find.

Iowa and Iowa State are certainly well aware of that and they've made huge pushes for Foster and are in deep with him. Foster says that the bluebloods like Kansas, Kentucky and Duke stay in touch via text but they've not made any trips up to see him this year and until they do it's hard to gauge how serious they area about them.

The West Coast schools are intriguing and Foster says that he'll be waiting until his senior year to make a decision. However, if more programs don't start prioritizing him soon it is going to be really difficult to pull him out of his home state.
