WTF Cowherd?

The year Texas won the national championship, The Big 12 went 7-1 in bowls and 8-0 against the spread in bowls...Cowherd spent that entire season obsessed that the big 12 was the worst major conference in college football.

There was another year where his big thing was Ben Simmons is a better version of Magic and LeBron.

So...yeah.
...if only he could shoot.

He's admitted on air he's paid to have hot takes for 3 hours a day to drive ratings and clicks. I'll at least give him credit for acknowledging what he says is not necessarily his opinion, it is what earns his show revenue.

Skip Bayliss and others still act like they aren't trolling for clicks.
He also is famously a shameless blue-blood front runner who believes college sports is worthwhile only if the traditional big names are good. I’m not throwing shade at him, he’s literally said this is what he believes. He hates underdogs and spunky rising programs, he only wants to see the Dukes and North Carolinas and Kansases (in CBB) and the Alabamas and Ohio States and Georgias (in CFB).

The downfall of ESPN Radio began when they hired Cowherd out of his local radio spot in Portland to replace Tony Kornheiser. That lineup of Mike & Mike/Kornheiser/Dan Patrick in the late 1990s/early 2000s was elite.

It was definitely Must Listen Radio.

You just have to realize that Cowherd is on a cloud, looking down his nose at extremely arrogant people on a mountain, who are looking down on the rest of us.

I'm sure he's comparing our recruiting to the elite of the elite (which is the only thing that matters in his mind). In that sense, he's right. We aren't recruiting in that rare air, but this staff does extremely well at the next tier down.

I’m mostly offended for our recruits. Not as an ISU fan. He is saying that the value/ranking of a recruits is based on what school they go to, and not what their potential is. If we went back and re-recruited classes from years ago, Tamin and Rocco would be highly sought after recruits.
I agree with this completely. Other than the handful of HS players who are elite, the rankings mean nothing. As soon as Duke or Kentucky recruit a kid, he goes from a 4 star to a 5 star recruit.

I know a local kid who is projected to be a top 100 recruit by the time his senior season rolls around (going into his jr. year now). He's had calls from some of the top AAU programs in the nation. All of them have said that Iowa State & Iowa are pretty much done recruiting kids out of high school. They have decided to focus almost primarily on the transfer portal.
Do our coaches or the high school kids visiting this weekend know that?

I generally like Cowherd, but he just said, "The best high school basketball recruits aren't gonna choose Iowa State. They're gonna choose...(the usual suspects.)" Has he not seen our team the last few years? Granted, we've done a lot of damage in the portal, but we've had some great high school recruits as well.

Your first mistake. Cowherd has always been an elitist prick who thinks nearly every team that exists solely to serve as farm systems and defeat fodder for his chosen teams: Yankees, Cowboys, SEC, Big 10, etc. He doesn't actually pay attention to what's really going on.

On the other hand, how many 5-star high school recruits has Otz offered since becoming head coach?

Gotta give him a little credit for calling Ferentz the "Fake ID of college football" I can't repeat it enough to my Hawk buddies.

I just can’t listen to the guy. The way he talks is like he’s over annunciating to compensate for the d*ck in his mouth.
He’s a guy who takes pride in being ripped for his awful takes. ”If people get mad at me for what I say, it just proves I’m right.”

Of course, he’s figured out (like Stephen A, Bayless, and countless other sports media loudmouths) that just stating one side of a point loudly and repeatedly will not only make people mad, but drive reaction to your takes, which by extension draws attention to him and his network, which means more viewers/listeners and higher profits.

They don’t actually believe 20% of what they say. They know that loudly expressing an opinion that a majority of people disagree with means those people will respond. And that’s literally all they care about. The best thing we could do is ignore these con artists (I’ve paid as little attention to take-based sports talk as I possibly could for years, I only see commentary about them around the internet, like here. Although I do have a long-standing, deep-seated hatred for Cowherd ever since ESPN Radio pushed out Tony Kornheiser and replaced him with this doosh back in 2003, when I had ESPN Radio on in my office every morning).
