Any casual observer could have made that change. What have you seen that leads you to believe that he can motivate, or that he in any way knows how to focus players on the fundamentals? Deciding to give one guy more minutes isn't coaching...

Halftime. We haven't come out of halftime poorly yet. Whatever he's doing at halftime seems to be effective.

I'm not pleased with much of anything tonight, but we at least came out of halftime with some fire. It didn't last, and then it returned, and then it was back and forth, but halftime seems better than the previous guy.

I honestly have never read your posts. However if you think tonight was good basketball or even close to it then you are wrong

Second year coach with a ton of new talent who has not had a chance to jell together yet. Am I ****** because we lost to UNI? Hell yes I am. It's unacceptable! On the bright side, this team is trying to find it's self. Kind of reminds of a team a few years back that went to the Elite 8.
Coach Fred does need to get his **** together and right this ship now. Sign a true point guard for next year please. The one constant we had with good ISU teams has been great point guard play. Think of Tinsley and Stinson/Blaylock.
Give this team a few more weeks before we throw them under the bus.

Yes it is okay to lose to UNI at home and Drake at home who just got spanked by Boise ******* State. Wow some of you need to wake the **** up and not except this kind of crap we were at home tonight against a not very good UNI team, we got out coached big time. Oh but yes lets just except it WRONG!!! Not saying UNI sucks or not giving them credit, but they are not an veteran team.

I am embarrassed and do not except this type of losing at all, we pay good money for these tickets which is thrown down our throats to do all the time by the athletic dept. and this is the showing we get at home against an MVC team!! Get ******* real people.

Sums it all up. Be ticked off tonight. I sure am. Just don't give up the whole season tonight.

Was what I was trying to say, however it just came out differently. I think they are starting to gel better as a team.

So what is it?

Motivating. Making in game adjustments as to offense and defense strategy. Teaching your players the concept of what is a good/bad shot given time and situation. Instilling toughness in your players. Holding them accountable for doing things right. Determining which offense and defense you want to play in a given situation. Controlling tempo.

I'm not saying substitutions isn't a tactical part of the game, but if you are saying he is improving as a coach because he is giving more time to one of our best offensive players...well that qualifies me to coach a D1 basketball team because I feel confident I could have also made that decision.

How does mcdermot beat us at UNI, and then losses to them while he's here, but then goes to creighton and wins games there?

Blows my mind to be honest. I thought we had good bball tradition and players.

He is getting more up in players faces which is good to see instead of laid back Fred.

You just know that if you give up on the season you give up on going to games, and if you give up going to the games you give up on walking tacos and clone cones. I see right through this false optimism.

Or maybe more pressure defense like pressing more to create turnovers when having a ten point lead to increase the lead just a thought.

Never said we played "good" basketball, just better than we have.

I think he was talking to me again, but thank you. That was my response exactly.

This was not good basketball. It was not what ISU has been. It's not Iowa State in the mid-80's. It's not early 2000's Iowa State. This is 2011. This is a different team. Different coach. Different regime, that comes after 6 years of crappy basketball. To expect this team to be what ISU was not only irrational, but unfair. This team is inexperienced, and will go through growing pains. This is one of them. In 2-3 years if we're still here, then you can complain that this is still crap. People have to give it time though.

I was at the game and really liked what I saw. I think the blinders are on for some of you. This team is playing harder and better than they have all season.

What game were you watching! We self destructed! We played less than good in the 1st half. Went on a run in the 2nd and actually showed signs of what Id hoped wed look like this year but then as soon as this went against us we completely gave up.

Nailed it! :biglaugh:
