No way. If they're going to fire him, they do very quickly. Especially if they are targeting someone like McCollum or DeVries. But even if not, you have to give your new coach as much of a jump as possible on building a roster. If Iowa waits a month to fire him, Beth is out of her league.

The firing had to happen now if they are targeting McCollum as the next head coach. Ben McCollum is definitely a one-and-done at Drake, so Beth the AD needed Fran "The Man" gone ASAP.

Will be interesting if they get him. Stirtz is a good player. And I’m sure a few more from Drake can play at this level. But you can’t really bring a starting 5 from Drake and expect to win in the big 10. Freeman just hit the portal and I’m sure a few more of their current players will as well. Iowa doesn’t have huge nil for mbb, McCollum has little to no experience recruiting at this level. And his play style is low tempo.

They are going to start in a pretty big hole, even with Stirtz. Early momentum is really important and playing games in the 50s isn’t going to generate a ton of excitement.

You think about it, it’s honestly better to fire on Monday. You can control the narrative, you don’t have to have the person calling other employees on the weekend stirring things up, less people will be around for them to spread

I worked with an accountant that said (tongue in cheek mind you), that if you have to fire me, do it on a Monday so I can enjoy the rest of my week.

Why, didnt he win multiple lower level championships and wants to turn Drake into the Gonzaga of the midwest? Look at the coach for OU, he was a prized get from Chicago Loyola and has struggled mightily. These P4 regular seasons are a grind that can take the life out of rising star coaches.
