If Hoiberg left for the NBA before next season? After next season?

Part of me would be mad at Fred, part of me would be happy that he's gotten to this point. I'd more be upset that this is the best track Iowa State basketball has ever been on and to have that derailed would be crushing.

The part of me that would be mad at Fred is that we gave him an opportunity that very few, if any, other places would have given him. We are set up to do some special things over the next 2-3 years and it would be tough to see him leave before any of it could be realized.

Part of me would be happy that he's pulled ISU basketball from the dumpster fire McDermott created and made us relevant again.

If Fred were to leave in 2-3 years after we've made a final four or national title run, I would feel completely different. But if we can't keep Fred here for the long-term, who can we keep?

I'm torn and it seems like Cyclone fans have a wide range of opinions on this. What's yours?

I wouldn't be mad. He has the program in an excellent position to keep building. If Fred would leave I'd be happy for him, and hopeful that JP would make the right hire who can get us closer to that National Championship.

It would suck, but I wouldn't be mad. Just sad.

Fred gave us 4 great years as a player.

He's given us 4 straight years of improvement with 3 tourney appearances.

We'd be in a lot better position to land a good coach than before.

It would be depressing losing the best thing to ever happen to ISU athletics, but I would still love him.

I might not be mad, but I'd be disappointed.

Fred has a chance to be a legend greater than Johnny Orr at ISU. He's got the program poised to do great things and it will only get better when he start pulling in the BIG recruits.

In the NBA, Fred's just another coach. If his GM doesn't bring in or keep enough good players, he'll be discarded.

I think he knows how fickle the NBA can be. I also think he knows what he can accomplish at ISU.

That's why I think he will stick around for a while.

Remember the year coach K didn't coach Duke for health reasons and they sucked? That's what Fred means to ISU. Enjoy it while we've got him.

If Fred leaves anytime soon, thought might be the final nut shot for ISU. We are so close to having something really special. The football program is what it is, its fun - but reallistically it is nothing that is ever going to be special (talking final 4).

That being said, I really think Fred knows what he has done for ISU the past few years and if he left what would possilby happen - i don't think he leaves.

No offense, but I'm really getting tired of these threads. No use in worrying about it unless it actually happens.

And, yes, for the record I'd be sad if he left. But not mad.

Not mad at all...disappointed in a selfish way! If/when Fred feels like it is time for him to move on then he should do it. It would sting a bit and I am sure it will be a tough decision for him to make on so many different levels but he would owe it to himself to do what he thinks is best for him and his family.

This is where I am at, these threads fill the entire front page.

Welcome to 1) a message board and 2) the offseason of a message board.

There is a reason these threads take up the front page...because people want to talk about it.

None of us has any right to be mad. If you get mad about it, you need to get a life, and you need to be less selfish.

Personally I'd be disappointed for our team because I don't think there's another coach like Fred anywhere that is such a great coach as well as a perfect fit for ISU. I'd be happy for Fred that he got a job offer that he wanted.

There are few things in life I get mad about, and Fred Hoiberg going to the NBA is not one of those things.
He has paid ISU back tenfold already.

I would be happy so we could stop talking about it every 5 seconds.

Everyone has the same answers and thinks the same way, and nobody can do anything about it. For all we know he truly wants to be a lifer here, but he can't come out and say that. Just let things be.

I'm in the minority, but yes I would be mad. We could turn Iowa State into a Duke type atmosphere. If Fred were to stay at Iowa State for 20 years - why not Iowa State?

If it had to happened I'd want him to wait til after the 2015-16 season when we make a run at the National Championship.

That being said, I bet he stays here until his kids are grown and graduated high school. The only way I see not happening is if a top 5 NBA job comes along that he absolutely can't pass up
