Words Have Power

But really, it's not the players fault they aren't Big 12 level football players and we go 3-9 every year.

Exactly how I feel. I feel bad bashing our football players, which is why I rarely do it. It's not like they intentionally are awful, it's just that many of them aren't talented enough to be on the field vs. most of the teams we play. I can't necessarily blame them for that, I blame the coaches.

Only time I tend to bash an ISU Football player is if they do something completely boneheaded that they should know better. See: Mike Warren ball security, Joel Lanning missing open receivers.

For the most part.. i agree with you. Players already on the team that we have seen perform in actual games, get both criticism and praise. Both sides, often over the top to a degree.

What irritates me are some of the posts in recruit threads. There can be a lot of disrespect spewed at people we have not seen play a single snap in an ISU uniform.
These "people" half the time don't even know what they are talking about and are trying to sound like they know exactly what the recruit brings to the table.

Who wouldn't look out of curiousity? I would get on here and mess with people all the time if I were a current player lol! If anything the negative posts should give you plenty of fuel for the morning workouts.

I wonder if this player read the praises he was getting in the off season and then got upset because peoples opinions changed during the season.

Quick story of how I found out about fan message boards:

Summer between my Jr. & Sr. year at ISU I stopped by Subway in campustown one Sunday night to grab supper. I had my football clothes on (mesh shorts and football t-shirt), the guy working there looked at me and said "your so & so right?". I was a little weirded out and said "yeah how do you know who I am?" He replied "people were talking about you on a message board saying you had a good spring practice and they were expecting you to do good things this season." My response was "message board? what?" He then told me the board and I went right home and read it. Since then I've been hooked lol.

Earlier this morning I was talking to a former football player and he noticed me browsing on Cyclone Fanatic. One of the things he said that a lot of the players actually read what people on this site are saying, or at least they are told what the buzz is around the site. I won't name who but a very important player on this team was on the verge of quiting because of the things that are being said and the fan attitudes around him. Just remember, these kids are 18-22 years old. We have know idea what any of them are going through and we should try to keep things as positive as they can be, no matter how ugly things can get. So the next time you're about to ridicule a player for a play, or a game just remember your words have power.

I think keeping things positive at all costs tends to make things worse, not improve them. I also think we tend to keep a minimal level of criticism around here.

I agree. I mostly cringe when the experts on here say something like "He's not what we want, we want (insert other recruit name here)." Imagine the recruit reading that and thinking, "WTF, I guess I'll go somewhere else, then." And maybe he's the top want of the coaches.

I'm fairly certain, the credibility 'behind' immature posts isn't worth the time reading it. It's so interesting how people can 'hide' behind their keyboards, but confronted with making the same comment in front of the person they're criticizing won't. I've always felt it's the most childish thing to criticize someone behind their back. But, then again, as an older generation guy, I'm old school on 'respect' and 'consideration'.

Furthermore, I'm always in awe at how 18-22 year olds can handle school AND a big time sport at the same time. Hell, I had my nose in the books most of the time cause I had to. Throw me into a big time sport and I'd crumble. So, I'm going to give these kids plenty of latitude for mistakes.

Twitter is far worse. The things said there really make me shake my head sometimes.

Yep, tweeting/FBing nasty things to players personally is just wrong.

Bad coaching generally deserves more criticism than pre-frontal lobed people making mistakes, and is generally justified when someone's getting millions.

There were a lot of physical mistakes made at the end of that KSU game last year, but putting relatively young players in that situation should have never happened to begin with, with other low risk options available.

Although CPR still wouldn't deserve a direct personal attack in the grand scheme.

I just realized that KSU game is slowly becoming my 'Liberty Bowl' for whoever always brings that game up.

I had class with a few football players in school and we were pretty good friends at the time. They were on here all the time.

18-22 year old kids being talked about, no doubt they want to look out of curiosity.

Cyclone players are gonna get the best fan support in the country. There will be hurtful things said by Internet jockeys for every team, so if some ISU player reads this board, please believe that transferring to another school is not going to mean no fans saying hurtful things about you online. I know it is much worse for a lot of other fanbases besides ISU. I will bet you anything if you have a down season elsewhere there won't be 50K in the stadium cheering you on to turn it around.

Cyclone Nation is a family. Family may criticize you, or say mean things, but at the end of the day family wants to see you be happy where you are and succeed.

Was the last sentence supposed to be funny or serious?

Lets see how fast of a deal it is tonight...

Pride sucks.

If I were Pride I'd cry about it.
