My wife got a chip in her windshield yesterday and beyond the initial chip it has not expanded at this point so I think it can be filled.

Who have you used in the Ankeny/Ames/Des Moines area and what was the cost?

Safelite is who pops in my head first for the repair.

I worked at a rental car place and we used safelite I believe.

You can get a kit and do it yourself also. Works great. I think it was around $10 or so.

Check with your insurance. I just called mine yesterday and a company came out today and fixed it completely for free because it was just a chip.

We got a chip in our windshield driving back from the spring game. Called our insurance, and Safelite came out to repair it for free. I believe out of pocket it would have been $60-$65.

The unfortunate p.s. to this is that while the tech was applying pressure to the windshield to create an airlock to administer the resin, the crack spread. Now we will have to replace the windshield.

I used harmon auto glass on hickman. Drove my car in, they did it right in the parking lot. 20 min and ~$25 bucks later I was out the door.

I've done this on several chips. Works OK. You can kinda tell that it's not the greatest method, but hey, it's worked for the 4.5 years I've had my truck (in Texas, if you don't have a chip in the windshield, you must not drive anywhere) so there's that.

This thread reminded me I needed to get a chip fixed here in Ames. $40 from :
