Sports are on tv, jobs seem secure, economy is rebounding, kids going to school this week, high school football is in practice, US infection rate going down, family went on summer vacation, and we're going to try to play college football. I kind of like the position we are in now.

Don't be such an angry Grinch.

You can only feel that way if you don't work and talk with a lot of people from around the rest of the developed world.

It's getting outright embarrassing on international calls.

I read a quote, apparently from a Penn State administrator, that there was too much “uncertainty” to have college football this Fall.

Damn, there’s a great life lesson from an educator. When you don’t know for sure what’s going on, quit.

Give up. Hide.

I can’t say how angry that makes me.

You can walk into a movie theater and see a movie with a big crowd in Canada right now and they have virtually no risk of outbreak. The entire country has less of a problem than Iowa.

Did Canada "quit" or did they just handle it in a vastly superior way in which they now have much more freedom and more prosperity? You know the answer.

As Frank Underwood says "but I want us to ******* TRY!"
I have no idea who Frank Underwood is. This seems like either a sarcastic or remarkably...shortsighted...reply.

Or both.

When you have uncertainties in life, you work to plot a rational course through to the other side, until you’re sure that you cannot, and then choose another direction.

I don’t believe in “trying”.

It's the internet. I wouldn't take everything so seriously. Just a quote my man.

I dunno about this. We already had Story County try to cancel the season because COVID-19 numbers went up once, right?

Seems to me something similar will happen if the numbers shoot up among students.

Not to mention that the football players will seemingly find themselves exposed to more infected fellow students (asymptomatic or not)—which could drive that number within the Football program higher.

You love to pick a random post to make a political point that is completely unrelated to the post you are actually quoting.

The guy was talking about Penn State and why "uncertainty" seems to be a bad reason to give up. What that has to do with movie theaters in Canada I have no idea.

@Clonefan32

There's a glitch on the site where quotes are being incorrectly attributed sometimes. I've seen a half dozen people comment on it. I can't tell if it's the glitch or you truly don't see how the post I replied to was incredibly political for calling people "quitters" when we live in the worst responding developed nation that now has the least freedom and safety.

I was responding to someone who was making a very political point. We all need to look around the rest of the developed world, we're uniquely failing.

The idea that Canada "quit" when the truth is they have drastically more personal and economic freedom than we do now is not just political, it's wrong and dangerous. I was responding to something that no informed American should stand for.

No Story County said they didn't want fans, which is where we're likely headed.

I would also be surprised if there was very much interaction going on between football players and others outside the program right now. Most classes have been switched to online anyway.

Which is fine, but odd in a thread about Big 10 Football.

It's not "quitting" for us to try to get out of last place. I'm tired of being on international calls where my country is a total embarrassment around the world. It's costing us $$$ and lives.

I literally have no idea what this has to do with my post. Sorry about your coworkers giving you a hard time, though.

There are dozens of other threads you can talk about this on. But bringing this up within the context of someone wondering why Penn State threw in the towel based on "uncertainty" has literally nothing to do with Canada or any point you are trying to make.

I'm convinced I could start a thread about the correct method of cooking Ramen Noodles and you'd turn it into a rant about America's reaction to COVID.

If you don’t think that the regular student body partying it up in close proximity without masks won’t increase the chances of the football season getting cancelled.... then I don’t know what to say?

Do you think there’s a greater chance of some UNC players testing positive now that it’s spreading on their campus?

Try small talk and avoiding having strange conversations with business associates.

Good - how is the whether in Korea?

Bad - do you agree with me that lack of collective consciousnesses in America has caused unnecessary mortality and hinders efforts to correct the trajectory of the economy?

Now that none of those students are on campus, no. I would also be interested in seeing what UNC's positive numbers look like within their program now.

If they're non-existent then you see that having the football program in tact actually creates a mitigation factor. A reason for these guys to not go out and socialize.

COVID => loss of jobs => no money => having to buy Ramen => can't cook them correctly

There. I did it.

It must be a glitch because I was replying to someone calling efforts to fight the outbreak "quitters".

It's more like we talk about sales/profits because it's essenti and US profits in my sector are at 5% of normal and every other country nearing 100% of normal.

I'm not going to let someone suggest it's quitting if I don't accept my country languishing in last place.

I think it is to late for big 10 to reverse decisions. Also hope this affects their recruiting :)

The qwaks are reported to have a final four basketball team , hopefully big 10 cancels the men's basketball season.
