Will Prohm ever win a championship?

First it was Naz, then it was no good post players, then it transitioned to Hoiberg's fault for not recruiting, now I've seen that its Solomons fault for getting hurt.

At what point do we stop with the excuses and start questioning why this coaching staff is underachieving and constantly getting outcoahed by teams with less talent?

While I know this thread is talking about a regular season conference championship, this will be a funny thread title if Iowa State can go on a run in Kansas City.

And just so the OP is not alone in embarrassment if that happens, I’d say there is a higher likelihood of us losing on Thursday right now as it will almost certainly be Baylor vs. Iowa State at 11:30 AM.

If we face Baylor, we'll probably be out immediately.

They will crush OU. It is human nature to have a better shooting game, at home against a team that plain isn't very good. Add in the fact that OU almost gave up a huge lead and lost to their rival and this has the makings of a blow out.
Except OU won.

Wow - I thought I had meltdowns. Agree this team is not playing well and settles for 3's rather than dribble drive. Seem to practice the toreador defense as opposing players go by to the basket for easy layups. Actual body up defense is not a term in the playbook - whatever the playbook might be. Seems to be fluid to point of street ball and no plan. When players take NBA or 60 foot 3 pointers off balance and kicking their legs in air like Doublemint gum twins we are in deep doo-doo. That is a player looking for scouts to gasp at range rather than team winning. Players who take jump shots and are short have no legs left and should be resting. It seems as if the staff have no clue how to rotate players and respond to bad plays. Hustle is missing and players look to refs for bailouts. Not a good look after you lost the chance for a B12 title. Limelight seems to be to much for this team. I remember when all of CF was worried a player may go the NBA last year - will that same sentiment exist this year? So far we are 5 games better than last year with a ballyhooed recruiting class - really? 5 games? So how good are we in reality? Top 25 eh? Maybe get realistic as expectations were too high and a moderately good team but nothing special! Love the Clones but not losing my mind over their missteps or coaching acumen - that is JP job! Football is coming!

What was this team projected at in the Big12 this year? 7th? I honestly cant remember.
We were in the talk for title contention, that's fantstic! Maybe the team overachieved early and now the grind of the big12 is finally catching up to them, idk th answer.
I know expectations change through the course of the season, but we had a good run and people seem to think we were entitled to a championship.
Disappointing, yes, but let's not get our 'jump to conclusions' board games out because the team is in a slump.

They were picked to finish 6th. Likely are going to finish 5th but it’s still possible we finish 6th. A lot of that based off the fact we were last place last year by a lot.

I would say that is better. My point is OU was up double digits all game and then missed front end of 1-1 and TX had a chance to win. The fact they used all that energy and almost blew a lead bodes well as they are the ones traveling on a day of rest to play a team that shot poorly and have been hearing how they suck at home. Factor in that ISU is a much better team than OU and you have the makings of a 10-15 point win.

A few random reactions to some of the comments here, especially the particularly silly ones.

For those who want to toss SP onto the trash heap, go back and read some of the strings during the Hoiberg years. Steve's getting off easy compared to some of those posts back then. Now, all of a sudden, some posters are pointing to the Hoiberg years as some kind of standard. Yes, he did really well but never met the standard of the whiners on this forum.

We are not tough, and other teams in the B12 consider us soft. Give me a break. How many B12 T'ments did we win? How deep did we go into the March T'ment some years. How often have we even gone to the T'ment compared to other B12 teams? Let me see - who are you referring to as soft. You are referring to Monte Morris, of course, or Thomas, or Long or Niang, or ..... In recent memory, this was a team that got down 10, 15, 20 points or more and came back to win. And you call that soft?

That we are not a young team. In one sense, no. But Shayok and Jacobsen, akthough seniors, are new to the team. We are starting 4 players that were not on the team last year. That's obviously not like starting 4 freshman, but it certainly is not like starting 3 seniors who are in the 4th year on this team.

I could go on. We are all disappointed. But the players are probably the most disappointed of all. I remain behind them, and the coach, 100%. They are struggling. Get over it. Go Cyclones.

Selective memory for sure around these parts.
I said it in another thread too, Hoibergs team underachieved as well and people were ready to burn down the program.
Now looking back people act like he won us 3 championships and made the final 4.
Prohm and Fred literally have the exact same amount of sucess minus 1 conf. Tournament win.

Only read the first page of posts in this thread. I can't take it seriously because we were one shot away from this being a victory. And if we had won, would we still be having this conversation? If not, then why are we having it here?

The team is a bit immature, but less immature than I would have thought for starting two true freshmen. Physically, the freshmen are only beginning to benefit from our conditioning and training program (think of the difference between freshman Georges and senior Georges). And the starting 5 have never played with each other before this season.

Lots of reasons to be okay with where we are at, all things considered. I think the additional year of maturity for the freshman, a full year of conditioning, and stability of so many of them having played with each other bodes well for the future.

And the talent alone is still capable of taking us on a nice run yet this year. If Wigginton had made the 3 and we won in overtime, we would be talking about that run, instead of all this.
