The lack of time spent on this coaching search and only ending up with Hoiberg might be the biggest thing that gets me about this coaching search. Only taking 24 hours to find your coach, and its a guy with ZERO experience? Are you kidding?
I suppose i should be glad we didnt go out and hire Troy Davis or Seneca Wallace as our football coach then...:skeptical:
:smile:All SMILES: Have you guys seen what a coach can do who really wants to be here!(Paul Rhoads) Not to mention that he can sell recruits on what it takes to make the big time.....played in the NBA for ten years and then has management experience at that same level.....not the same as college-but I love his chances!
I'm going to be interested to hear what his contract is. This sounds a little like a interim coach deal. You get someone quick who can hold together the team, recruits and coaches already here, someone beloved by the fan base.
Yes there were some names being thrown around but this really isn't a good time of the year to be going through a coach search and it is a terrible time of year to be starting from scratch. Those other names may not have kept the coaches and we may have lost even more recruits and players.
This give us a the ability to hold what we have together, gives Hoiberg a chance to prove himself and if he doesn't work out we can get better names and have more time next spring or in two years if needed.

Don't forget maybe, just maybe -he learned a little bit from Larry Brown, Tim Floyd, Larry Bird, Flip Saunders, Johnny Orr, etc... The NBA has a very long season and that's a lot of practice time he's spent going over defense, offensive plays, etc...

I also imagine he will be a better closer than most head coaches from day 1. Where he may be most lacking is being a head coach, but I think he has a ton of experience in the gym with high talent and his intelligence will close the gap on those with more experience.
If we keep Nurse on board (pretty sure he was JP's hire, not Mac's -conspiracy alert) -we have our X's and O's guy. Grayer is our post guy, Fred is our guard guy, TJ is our main recruiter. Nab another recruiter and hopefully Nurse's foreign contacts (10 years!) will bear some fruit as well.
