Why do I hate the Hawks so much?

I'm 65 years old and I'm just trying to figure out why I hate the Hawks so much. I'm even rooting for the Cornhuskers over them!
What are some of your reasons you hate the Hawks so much?
Simple rivalry for me. I went to ISU, so **** the Hawks.

Funny thing is, growing up in Illinois, I was actually an Iowa fan. No real reason, other than all my family cheered for Illinois, and I was probably trying to be the "rebel" child. Or, I've always been a Steelers fan, so maybe I liked the colors???

In 1978 Iowa State beat Iowa 31-0. I was sitting at a stop light with my dad in his 1972 piss yellow maverick. Guys jumped out of a black van with greek letters hand painted on the side (badly I might add) and one of them punched me through the window. I was 12 years old- F*** Iowa

I wasn't a huge basketball fan until I went to ISU in the mid eighties in the Johnny Orr, Hornacek, Grayer days. Grew to live for Cyclone basketball and understand the rivalry with Iowa, but it took that Hawkeye d-bag Jeff Moe to really cement my hatred for them. I'm definitely one of those terrible human ISU fans that root against the Hawkeyes in every game, every sport. If you were there for the Jeff Moe games at Hilton, there's no way you could ever be a "root for the Hawkeyes except when they play the Cyclones types". I've raised both my kids to share these feelings ... very proud of that.

You're supposed to dislike your rival so it's natural.

Not trying to gatekeep in any way but the rivalry also feels way more intense when you actually go to either of the schools. I (obviously) am an Iowa State alum...was a Clone from birth so I've always disliked the Hawks.

It's an in State rivalry. Same reason you won't find many Louisville fans rooting for Kentucky

Kind of the same as others on here. Growing up, every ******* I knew was a Hawkeye fan. There were more of them, so not surprising there would be some bad eggs in the group.

I rooted for the underdog to win. The more mean the Hawkeye fans were to Iowa State fans the more I wanted them to lose. Now that we are the dominate program, I care less about what they are doing.

The lesson: Don’t be an *******. It causes more problems then you will ever realize.

For me, it's that the media all schills for them. The moment they have any slight amount of success, the media talks of nothing else. Like last night on Sound-off, we had to have the obligatory Caitlin Clark story. And they're supposed to be more important just because they're a member of a Big 2 conference. And Hayden Fry. And Brett Bielema.
