When I went through confirmation, my pastor said two things that stuck out in my mind:
1) You can cuss, just don't do it all the time (like rappers)
2) A church is not a building. A church is wherever people gather to worship God.
These go to further my point.
1) Why can't I swear? Does it say anywhere in the bible I can't swear like a sailor if I wanted to (honest question because I don't know)? If not, why has the religious organization said that swearing isn't "allowed".
2) Then why is it common knowledge that you "need" to go to church to be a good Christian? I had a pretty good relationship with my hometown pastor...he would always ask me if I was going to church in Ames, to which I would say "no". And he would ask why not and that I should be going? Why?
