If the SEC, Big Ten, ACC and Pac 12 are all moving to 16 team conferences lets think realistically here about the Big Tens options if Notre Dame is indeed headed for the ACC. I know you Hawk fans are lurking. Your hatred for Iowa State aside what two available schools would you want to go after? If Notre Dame is off the table I'd have to think Kansas and Iowa State are two of the top contenders.

I think Rutgers has shown them that Syracuse and Boston College are not going to bring any more than pretty much any Big 12 program. Maybe more in some ways, less in other ways.

I think the ideal, post UT/OU scenario for the Big 12 and ISU is to pilfer AZ and AZ State from Pac 12, possibly add BYU and Houston. Spanning 3 time zones is not great, but would have the same problem joining a PAC 16 "super conference". This approach brings in two more Power 5 schools covering a rich recruiting footprint. BYU would bring some national cachet; Houston is in the middle of talent-laden recruiting grounds and a large TV market.

Joining Big 10 wouldn't be all that bad. Would have the cultural, academic and geographical fit. Plus, Cyclones' recruiting is not dependent on Texas pipeline. Regularly playing Wisconsin and Nebby (and occasionally tOSU, Mich, Sparty and Penn State) could be interesting. Besides, from a culture and scheme point of view, Iowa State kinda' is a Big 10 football program.

Joining the PAC 12 is far from ideal. It is a loooong trip for a lot of away games and who watches or cares about PAC 12 football anymore? Their per school TV revenue is worst of the Power 5.

Whatever happens, Iowa State has set itself up as well as could be expected: Rising, Top 10 football program with sustainable success, durable culture, academic excellence, big investments in facilities. A lot of other Big 12 and Power 5 schools are not as well positioned for another conference realignment missile crisis.

Are people cutting NIL deals to conferences? Are SEC teams lying that USC and Texas players can't make money because they are in the Pac and Big 12?

I guess I don't get it. I get how certain teams and leagues could be more aggressive promoting turning players into half time players and half time marketing celebrities, but I don't get what is stopping that in the Big 12 or Pac 12 or ACC.
I understand that SEC athletic directors wasted no time in developing a plan and an outreach strategy with this.
What have Pollard and others done in the Big 12? I don't see much.

Academic ranking is the one thing that is worse in this beauty pageant than last time.

I agree too. I don't think UT will have any problems "arranging sponsors" for their players in the Big 12. The reporter was an Aggie grad who loves all SEC. However, he doesn't want Texas in the SEC but feels A&M won't be able to stop them.

I think it's more likely just talk at this point.

The school that devised the LHN is not going to have a problem funneling cash to players now that it's legal regardless of what conference they are in.

Local Houston reporter said his sources said the NIL was the biggest reason for this move. He said the SEC is killing it in using the NIL for recruiting and Texas doesn't want to be on the outside. He said Texas was first to contact the SEC and Texas brought in OU after.

Seems like the writing is on the wall here. NIL comes down a couple weeks ago. Sankey spends SEC Media Days talking openly about breaking away from the NCAA. Saban talks about how his QB who hasn't hit the field yet is already up to almost a million dollars in endorsements.

The SEC is going to form its own league outside of NCAA control - the first super league - and fulfill its destiny of funneling unlimited cash to recruits and players, with no pretense of academics and no consequences. Like with realignment 10 years ago, it's musical chairs and Texas and OU want to ensure themselves a seat.

Haven’t read because I can’t keep up with everything, but it sounds like if this does happen, the PAC-whatever has a spot for us. Not sure how believable that is, since I’ve also heard they have spots for OSU and KSU (along with KU), and I just don’t see how those programs fit academically.

If the SEC goes to 16, everyone else will too, the big 12 teams will likely get divvied up to get the pac,b1g and ACC to 16 with the leftovers joining some kind of American/Mountain West hybrid 16 team league. That means 6 big 12 teams would still be in a p6 league, tough to see ISU not one of those 6 teams.

But once realignment starts, we also have to worry about schools like Houston, USF, UCF, Memphis, and Cincinnati. Other conferences might see them as more attractive than some of the leftover 8 Big 12 teams.
