Recruiting can be a major problem in all sports programs. You need to get the talent into the program. Do we need an additional recruiter?

Maybe. I hope we can keep the Paulsens and Reader around while they train for international freestyle. What hurts upper weight recruiting is Sanderson and Varner at Penn State. When the Paulsens are done with freestyle; I think we need to evaluate our assistant coaches and decide if we want to left the Paulsens get away from Iowa State.
Well, yeah, recruiting is tremendously important. But Jackson's first full class is redshirting right now, so we have no way of telling how good of a recruiter he'll end up being. Obviously right now nobody can recruit against Cael, but we have to succeed in recruiting against schools like Iowa, Cornell, Oklahoma, OSU, Minn, and so on.
I agree Bobby Douglas "light"....... Team rank 19 by wrestlingreport and 15 by intermat. Rankings by weight at intermat 125 nr, 133 nr, 141 15, 149 nr, 157 nr, 165 10, 174 1, 184 nr, 197 17, hwt 18. Five ranked wrestlers and only 2 in the top 10.
This is a program that should be in the top 5 every year, year in and year out and in contention for a national championship. If you settle for pretty good that's what you get and it's not pretty.

You have to realize that we graduated 6 starter (Gallick is included) and Jensen, Long and Clark departed. Yea wish we had all 3, but we don't. Incoming Redshirt freshman class to pick from Weatherman. That's it. That's why we have holes. It will take a couple years to get the lineup strengthened back up. Druin was brought in to strengthen 141, that is why Jensen is here. Reader is the main guy we lose, but Spangler and Moreno will fill that hole. Finch will fill the 125 pound hole.
Lots like to complain, but no solutions. I do not like see our program down like this, but it was not KJ's fault. We can discuss KJ and the assistants better in a couple of years.

I'm not sure but I'm putting you and Judoka at the top of the list since you're so quick with your mouths and blind to recognizing the problem.
This is not helpful. Obviously Sanderson was supposed to be the long term solution, but he wanted to work less at his job, so he took the PSU job, where he can dominate the recruiting of the best in-state talent. The only person I would probably give a shot to right now would be Dan Gable. Don't think he wants to get back into coaching, but it would be phenomenal if he came back to his alma mata to restart the tradition. It would be nice if KJ could get him as an assitant. Iowa fans would all have heart attacks.
I still really think we are missing the coaching of Chris Bono at the lower weights.
We are 35 years to late on that. Will probably never forgive Coach Nichols for hanging on to turn it over to Les. One great coach and a great assistant but we missed the dream ride then. His health is not what it needs to be and his age (62) works against it plus his deep feelings for the Iowa program. I think you're right about Chris Bono.
Intermat and USA Today both have us ranked 3rd in the Big XII... behind the Oklahoma schools, ahead of Nebraska and Mizzu. Way to cherrypick the one ranking (that isn't even remotely as well regarded) that has us ranked lower.
We don't have a single loss to a non top-ten team this year, and have a win over the #3 ranked USA today team and the #9 ranked intermat team. The sky is not falling. Even in a rebuilding year after graduating one of our best senior classes ever plus the defections/drunkards, we are still an elite team. Maybe not as high as we would prefer, but by no means are we spiraling into ruin like you seem to believe.
I agree the sky is most certainly not falling. We graduated 6 starters last season, over half our starting line-up! 2 of which were national champs and 5 of them I believe were all-americans. We took a huge hit losing those talented seniors and another big hit losing almost all of Cael's recruits, Weatherman being the only big name to stay with us from that class. So almost all of the guys meant to fill in the large hole left by last years seniors have gone themselves. This year is simply a down year due to unfortunate circumstances. I can't blame guys for following the guy who recruited them. We've done quite well considering all of the turnover in so many areas of this program.
Last season was coach Jackson's first full season and so all of his recruits, other than Brandon Jones, are redshirting right now and looking quite good in the open tournaments. We'll see how well Jackson has done recruiting and have even more evidence of his ability to develop wrestlers after next season. Right now, we're in transition and doing better than most everyone in the wrestling world expected from us.
I will also say I feel Jackson did a pretty good job grabbing some decent transfers to help in this transition season. It's obvious he's always working to win and put the best team he can on the mat every year in every dual and every tournament.

I'm not a big fan of JUCO transfers. Carr is just average, Hunter and Hawes are good backups, Druin was a rare find, don't think you will get to many D1 AA's transfering ther Senior year. (Other than Cyler). But with the hole we have, I don't disagree with it as long as we aren't committing alot of scholarship dollars.
True. I forgotten that one, really hated to see Long go despite his problems. We also had Jensen leave, who was doing a decent job filling in for Gallick. Not a champ contender like Gallick, but everything one could hope from a good back-up. So with that, we only have Reader and Sorenson returning from last years starters. That's just nuts.
That's a good point buf. I guess I hadn't thought of the potential drain on scholly money with the transfers. I hope it's not too much. I'm just happy to have solid guys to fill out the roster. Guys that can create some competition in the room and be decent back-ups so we don't have to forfeit in the event of injury...though 141 obviously is thin, as many have mentioned, and we did in fact have to forfeit there against MN.
