Correct. My point is we have less control of them than in football, which alot of people assume is similar.

I know for a fact you get graded after every game and it affects not only tournament opportunities, but also future employment as an official.
If it’s the public part you want, do you want your job reviews to be made public? I don’t think that needs to happen.
The foul at the end where small lowered his shoulder into lipsey and the foul was on lipsey was unbelievable. On alot of the and 1 fouls that went against us today they decided they were gonna call a foul on us whether there was one or not.
I'm not advocating one way or the other. All I'm saying is the conference does not have the same control over officials in basketball that they do football.
I think I stumbled into a hok thread by mistake. Officiating wasn’t the issue.
Why not publish them, if you continually screw up you should be not rehired. In the real world , if you screw up you get fired. Or move up the ladder and become the boss.
Are you saying fire the refs during what I believe is still a ref shortage?
With as physical and aggressive as we play on defense I really have not had an issue with the refs lately. We probably get away with a lot more contact that most of us fans will admit and the last thing we want is for a crew that is quick with their whistle as that does not favor us. I use to hate the "40 minutes of hell" defense the Bob Huggins WVU teams played. I felt they got away with a lot of contact with that style of defense but we play a lot like that on defense now I think and the way they don't call charges like they used to back then favors how we play too. The less the whistles are blowing the more aggressive we can play on defense. I give WVU credit, they got us out of sync offensively and it felt like they were calling it the same way on both ends of the floor for the most part. There are always going to be a few missed calls in any game but a lot of the plays some of our fans are complaining about were called the same way when we probably got a little too physical on defense too.
Yes, and recruit better ones with a better salary.
Top end guys are pulling $350-400k. Money isn't the issue.
There's a massive shortage. Its going to get way worse because youth parents and coaches suck and people that might have advanced and moved up levels are quitting before they ever get to that point.

I bet you are a guy who talks a big game about officials and would get on the field/court and absolutely crap the bed.
There is certainly a market for officials if you want to grab a whistle and go for it.
If it were easy, everyone would do it.
The abuse refs/umps/officials take at youth sports is ridiculous these days. It's a thankless job and I appreciate the ones have stuck with it over the years. Last weekend watched my niece play a non conference game between 2 small schools and there was an old guy in the row in front of me that keep complaining about the foul discrepancy even though the school he was rooting for won the the game. He would keep saying "10-3 for fouls" or "there is another foul" on a play and one of the refs finally said to him calmly "I'm pretty sure we don't need help calling fouls." The guy quieted down without incident but I have also been at a 3A girls game the other year that a fan from the other team apparently said something towards a ref that they stopped the game, pointed him out and the guy was escorted out of the gym while he made a spectacle yelling at the ref.
I've seen parents and coaches get a little carried away taking elementary age sporting events too serious and yelling at refs, players, and coaches. At that ages those kids are developing skills and most of the coaches and officials are usually volunteers. I get a little fired up at times with how the games my kids play in feels like my kids coach is not doing a good job instructing them in practice when we make the same mistakes in games. But I don't intervene because I did not volunteer to coach so I can't be critical of another parent or kid that volunteered to coach or officiate when I did not.
I have been an official, now I am 71 years old. I know refs make mistakes, but honest grading of them needs to be taken. When you screw up, you should be able to study the results and try to improve. BIG 12 should actively reach out with classes to hire more young officials, and pay them a good salary.
