My gut says that Ford was there just to observe Ake and see that he really was "awoken."
So, here's what we know: Dolores, Maeve and Ake have been "awaken." So, Maeve's and Ake's actions recently are due to loving someone else. "When you've been in the dark long enough you start to see" etc. Dolores is PISSED. She is vengeful. She doesn't seem nearly as human as Maeve (loves her daughter) and Ake (loves his wife). Heck, even Teddy seems more human than she does.
Ake has come out of nowhere much like Desmond in LOST and is now a very key character going forward. That's why this latest episode was so cool IMO.
Did Ford plan on her being this way? Or is she Bernard's wildcard in this whole story?
