On a beautiful summer Saturday afternoon, I thought I would 'surprise' my wife who was calmly reading on the deck with a huge cannonball in the pool. The bigger surprise for her was my scream as I my right calf exploded upon my push-off jump.

Who else has suffered dumb injuries that remind you that you're not 16 anymore?

Concussion, 2 broken ribs, and a strain in lower back on 4th of July this year from water skiing on slalom.

Doc also found a fractured vertebrae in my neck apparently that went unnoticed in previous accident.

I am 48 yes old. Not 18 anymore.

I, thankfully, haven't had major injuries...but I scrubbed our deck and stained it the last few days...boy, being crouched down, standing up, scrubbing, etc and you'd of thought I was hit by a truck when I woke up the next day.

Playing HORSE with my friend's son last July 5. Went chasing the ball in the grass, stepped in a hole, my foot twisted and popped. I knew I broke it for the 3rd time. Held out the rest of the evening as the beer helped. Went to the ER the next morning and confirmed it. Broke the 5th metatarsal for the 3rd time. Was in a cast for 6 weeks.

Never anything serious, but I'm to the age where if I sleep wrong, it may make my back so back that I'm out of commission for a day.

Also, this February I bent over to pick up a box (just a light five pound box) and tweaked my back so badly that I was in pain for the next week.

Drank too much after RAGBRAI one night, was so hungover the next day I had to cancel my plans at 5:30 pm.

Have had to back off my running because of knee issues. Was once running 20-25 miles per week. Now 10-12. Also have battled a balky hamstring and actually have to take time to stretch. I hate stretching.

Hobbled out of bed and into the kitchen this morning without tearing my achilles. Mission accomplished! If I am this tight and inflexible in the morning at 60 I am not looking forward to how bad 70 or 80 will be.

Did that at the Towers courts way back when.

Thankful it was not my Achilles, although the Dr. was pretty concerned about it. Difference between weeks and months of recovery.

I was playing soccer with my 7 year old daughter yesterday. She was practicing taking shots and I was the keeper. I stretched my right leg out to do a kick save and just barely got a toe on it. Apparently, she put enough pace on it that I felt something pop in my foot. Sucker is black and blue this morning and hurts like hell to put much weight on it.

I haven't seen a doctor yet. I figured I'd see how I felt after a day or so. I've never broken a bone, and I'm reluctant to have this be my first broken bone story.
