We NEED this Kid!

If we can't get pressure with 4, taking a guy away won't help. If we want to blitz linebackers, just do it from a 4-3. Btw, you run a 3-4 when you have one huge stud nose tackle. Thus allowing you to play a man short on the d line
A base 3-4 pretty much always rushes 4 players. They can just diguise who's rushing much better. You run a 3-4 when you're DC is learned in that craft, then you recruit to fill the 3-4. Burnham has never run a 3-4. We've had a couple of game schemes where we used 3 down lineman before, but it was not a 3-4.

Our Dime package uses 3 lineman. That allows us to keep Knott and Klien both on the field, along with the 6 DBs. I agree, switching to a 3-4 isn't remotely a good idea. We have lots of young talent coming in the next couple years on the D-Line, but I none are the big space-eating DT you need to run the 3-4 effectively. Plus you need some fast-athletic 240 pound OLB to really make the 3-4 effective. Our defense will be just fine running a 4-3 with Wally manning the helm (hopefully for several more years) and with the recruits this staff is bringing in.

Which brings us back to this Miles kid....would be an awesome pick-up for CPR!

There's a reason why Alabama is one of the few programs that can run the 3-4 in college. They have NFL caliber DL and 330 lb DTs.

I know it won't get us pressure, but the 4-3 is designed to but we're not getting it consistently.

Why not add a LB instead? Then we have more flexibility, including (gasp!) LB blitzes.

There is a hell of a lot more to playing the 3-4 than just taking away a DL and adding a LB.
