We love you, Georges

The worst part about losing this game is it was Georges' last game. Really sucks. Definitely my all-time favorite Cyclone.

George,

Thank you for so many wonderful games. I wish you the best. There is a spot in the rafters for you, unfortunately, you will have to wait a few years.

You are easily my favotite cyclone ever.

Been sad to see a lot of ISU athletes finish their careers but none and I mean NONE compare to losing Niang. Once in a lifetime player and person. Couldn't have asked for a better representative of our amazing university and I have no doubt he will continue to do us proud while proudly representing the cardinal and gold in whatever he does beyond basketball. As the reality that I just watched Georges play as a Cyclone for the last time sets in, I'm starting to realize I don't have nearly enough beer to get me through the night. Cheers to one of the all time greats!

Georges Niang; A great Cyclone! thanks for bringing it every time and made it look like you're having fun. Proud to call you an Alumni.

This is the most recent memory of Georges, but it shows his character and who he is as a person. After the Iona game in Denver I watched child after child come down to get autographs and photos with Georges. You could totally tell he wanted to focus on the game at hand (had to play the winner) and was talking with the other players. But every time a little girl or boy (or at times older people) came down from wherever their seats were, Georges but a smile on and took time out of his very busy day to make somebody elses.

Georges is my favorite player to every play for any ISU team. He is ahead of many all time greats and will forever be one of the greatest college basketball players of the last few decades. Thank you for everything you gave the Cardinal and Gold and I know I speak for everyone here when I say I am beyond sad to see you go. I just hope we as a fan base can at some point pay you back for everything you gave us.

Georges was a Cyclone, and embraced EVERYTHING that goes with it. He loved Ames, ISU, and Cyclone Nation in full.

A lot of great players have been through here, but few will be remembered the way Niang will be.

I worked at the Iowa State Daily during Niang's freshman year. I got to photograph ISU football and basketball games. I was on the field and court getting photos of guys like A.J. Klein, Jake Knott, Melvin Ejim, Niang among others.

It wasn't out of the ordinary to exchange a "Hey, how's it going" with the players pregame. I easily became accustom to being around the players. Then during the summer between Niang's freshman and sophomore season I ran into him at Aspen Leaf on Duff. There was something about seeing a player outside each of our "working elements" the friends I was with said I started acting like a schoolgirl when Niang walked in. I don't know what it was, but he easily became one of my favorite Cyclones early on, I was just starstruck by him in that moment.

30-8-4 against Virginia. In all honesty, we need to call these last 4 years the Niang era and forget who it was that coached the team. What a ******* stud.

THIS
Love George
ALL TIME
Never be the same.

Now that his career at ISU is sadly over, does anyone have a favorite Georges moment? He's had so many highlights during his four years here that it is hard to pick one. When you think of George Niang at ISU, what is the first thing that you think of?

  • Driving baseline for the game winner against Iowa in 2013?
  • Celebrating on the court with fans after knocking off #7 Michigan in 2013?
  • Watching him cut down the nets in Kansas City his Sophomore or Junior seasons?
  • Scoring 25 second half points like a man possessed against Oklahoma in the Big 12 tournament this year, then giving a classy post-game interview along side Buddy Hield?
  • Blowing a kiss to the Hawkeyes last year in Iowa City?
  • His big scoring output during the Sweet 16 run this year?
  • Game winner his Freshman year at home against West Virginia?
There are too many good moments to list. I think that the first thing I think of is just the fun little dances that he does pre-game to get the team fired up before they take the court. His personality is just so fun to watch. His jersey should be hung in the rafters of Hilton ASAP.

I very rarely if ever post anything on here. I prefer to lurk and enjoy the insight and humor from the other posters. I do have to say this though. I have followed Iowa State athletics for way to many years. I can say I have been a season ticket holder for football since the Troy Davis era. I remember coming to games during the Hoiberg, Grayer, Horaneck , Fizer, Tinsley, Stinson and countless other basketball players times. Long story short, Georges Niang is by far the best overall player I have ever seen wear a Cyclones basketball uniform. The kid simply made ISU basketball fun again. The kid simply made a rivarly with Iowa fun again. The kid made being an ISU fan cool again. His love for the university and the state of Iowa is umatched from any kid playing today in the state of Iowa today. Thank yu Georges for being a rare breed and bringing excitement back o Iowa State University once again.
