We can still make a great run

WVU was a fluke and not the rule. We know this now. Our team is very good. FFFFAAARRRR from great.

We will continue to struggle on the road. I would make an exception for @TCU, but I don't know about that they way we struggle with adversity in ANY placed not named Hilton.

Right now I would say we would get bounced in our 2nd game of the Big 12 tourney as well as the round of 32 in the NCAA. Just not strong mentally, defensively, and we suck at the FT line and every team we play knows these things.

Of course it's not. The meltdown here is hilarious. Not sure how we got such spoiled fans all of a sudden to call our team hotheads, selfish, lazy, etc
Bunch of babies here.

Seeing the obvious doesn't make me any of those things you name. The chemistry is not there this year. Too much talent and not enough minutes.

This is normally how it works out for us. Win all our home games give or take Kansas, beat all the bad teams on the road except for the 1 game we don't show up for, and lose to everyone else on the road other than 1 game we win out of the blue for a 12-6 or 11-7 finish every season. I'm not even sure what they have to do to break this cycle any more.

Some people just see the negatives I guess. I saw an Oklahoma team make a lot of contested shots tonight, and they looked like a team that could make a deep run in the tourney. Our team has the most trouble when the refs call a physical game, as they did tonight. Our shooting goes cold as our guys get gassed by the shoving match that happens inside. I can't say I agree with the way college basketball is called anymore, but the refs tonight were consistent and that's all we can ask for anymore. Its getting more and more physical every year, but our team needs to learn to adapt to that. We didn't play physical defense until it was too late.

We have had two coaches that won on the road in conference play with a little bit of regularity and they were Floyd and Eustachy. Both coaches preached defense.

It's not rocket science as to why we struggle on the road. Defense travels and shooting doesn't always travel (even though tonight it did). Until we commit to being a tough defensive team, we will continue to lose on the road regardless of talent. The sad thing about this team is they do have the athletes to be a solid defensive squad. They just don't do it.

MAYBE Fred will get tough with them after tonight. Patting this team on the back and calling these games learning experiences has not worked.

Eustacy also failed to make the tourny his last year as our coach. Floyd did ok on the road.

A team that bends to the will of the referees (whether the be good or bad) is not a great team. So that is a negative right there that you just mentioned.

I'm far from doom and gloom. We are really good, but there are GLARING weaknesses in this team that David Copperfield couldn't hide.

Sure we win at home but i really don't have any confidence in this team making a deep run until we make changes, whatever that may be. Things imo that are going to hurt us in march:

1. Free throws (we suck at free throws) even niang and Morris lately.

2. We seem to not make the extra pass like last few seasons

3. No mental toughness (if adversity hits the games over)

4. Awful anywhere but hilton

5. No rebounding

6. No go to player or true leader when we need them. Wheres the niang of last year.

7. Turnovers turnovers after turnovers. Adversity hits and we go from 2 turnovers to 10 in about 5 minutes.

Sorry was this supposed to be a cheer up thread, i see no reason for optimism until some of these things are fixed. Im seriously wondering what is going on though. It puzzles me. We have so much talent and we lose like this or lose to trech? Blow a 20 point lead to texas and almost lose? Is one player a plague on the team?

We have too much talent. Chemistry isn't there.

No dispute there. Eustachy was not as good of a recruiter as Fred. He also wasn't the offensive mastermind Fred is. But there is a reason Larry has won conference titles at 5 different schools. His teams defend and rebound, and when he has talent, he gets the most out of it. There is no reason this team should be this poor on defense with athletes like we have.

How is adapting to the way the game being called a weakness? I would say playing soft defense in a game that is being called physical is a weakness. Our team has been weak against teams that foul a lot. Should we continue to be weak against teams that foul a lot to prove a point that we don't bend to the will of the referees?

In our losses, its been too much individual playing.... When Niang and Morris are shooting badly, they just continue to shoot. When Kane was shooting badly he seemed to figure it out that he needed to facilitate the offense. If Morris and Niang realize this, this team can definitely make a run. If they continue to play helter skelter - its game over... probably go 3-3 in our final six.

14 Turnovers

12 Assists

Game over!!!!

Some of you need to go back and look at ISU road record last year.

We lost everywhere except TCU, Tech and OSU...And we lost at home to KU.
We got throttled at WVU by like 40 on the 10th of Feb.

Now I had heard the Big 12 is the highest rated RPI conference this year wasn't last year but was this year.

Jerry Palm known ISU hater the Big 12 by far is the toughest conference in college basketball.

And yet we have no chance at the sweet 16... Pure gold..:biglaugh:

The TT loss sucked, but I do not think people realize where we stack-up talent wise in this conference. This talent advantage thing is a myth. Every team in this conference has very good players, and most of other good teams have less holes than we do.

Anyone expecting a better record than last year was not paying attention. Think of what we lost and where we are now. I feel pretty damn good about the the job of this staff this year, a bad second half on the road to a top-20 team is not going to change that.

Actually we had 8 road wins counting the non-conference schedule. This year 3 to date.

No doubt toughest schedule in basketball.... But to be considered one of the best teams in america, and doing well in tourney, you have to be able to win on the road game once in a while... winning at WVU was great, could have stole one at Baylor and didnt... that win would be huge right now....and more importantly - KNOW HOW TO WIN ON THE ROAD.... Hopefully they learn real soon or we will be looking at a lower seed and tougher road to even the sweet 16.

Think if we go 3-3 before big 12, we will be sitting at 20 wins...

It might help stay more positive to accept that this team is not getting a 1 seed and probably not a 2 — it's a 3/4 type team, and view it with that type of expectation.

The concerns mentioned here & elsewhere are certainly legitimate, some games more of those flaws show or are more severe than other days, and the road woes are a bummer. But if we're expecting perfection and also thinking that we've been losing games to South Carolina the past few weeks (with exception of Tech, of course) it's gonna bring you way down.
I turned into Mr. Sunshine all of a sudden. What has come over me!

I don't think anyone is arguing the bottom line which is we're a good team, but not much more. Will make the dance but likely not we the second weekend. Thats not being negative, just honest.
These aren't sweet 16 teams we're losing to.
