We are seeing Prohm evolution

When Fred decided to leave is when we lost a chance to compete with KU for a regular season championship. Continuity and a pursuit of perfection is what wins championships. With the need to hire a new coach continuity went out the window. People had unrealistic expectations last year. Coach Prohm did a marvelous job swimming that mine field. We didn't win the regular season Big 8 when Floyd took over after Johnny either. Things are progressing.

Floyd barely made the NCAA his first year with hoiberg himself.

Raw emotion coached in a sweet 16 and inked one of the best classes in ISU history. Raw emotion won in AFH. Raw emotion sits players who don't follow rules Raw emotion lets the players have freedom until they've demonstrated a need for more leash. Raw emotion knows x and o, and has had consistent success. Raw emotion has a plan and is putting his plan in place with a completely unbalanced roster. I'm fine with raw emotion. Oh - has raw emotion drawn a technical yet? THAT would seem to scream raw emotion.

I honestly do not know what point you are trying to make

Can you synthesize for me?

My point was raw emotion (like Rhoads) is just one aspect and that alone doesn't lead you to success. From there you've rambled about Hoiberg and now are just typing raw emotion in front of all of Prohm's impressive accomplishments.

Mind you I never said Prohm's only positive was raw emotion.

(Warning this fan drops a lot of F bombs)

Wish I could say glad we do not have fans like this, but now not so sure

Is it me or do some people take sports waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to seriously....

Lastly I always thought the guy living in his mom's basement was kind of this urban myth, well clearly the myth is no longer, this has got to be one of the biggest losers I have ever seen.

Either this guy is mentally slow or he's acting for the video.

As I stated a few weeks ago I think losing at home (under any circumstances) is a difficult thing for our fansbase (including me) to accept. There is no doubt that Steve Prohm is a good man. A caring and compassionate man. Those are qualities that we should seek in every leader of young man. But as he stated yesterday coaching is a tough profession.

It will always be my opinion that we underachieved last year. 10-8 in the conference and first round bounce from the Big 12. I acknowledge that we got to the Sweet 16 but I also think that the context of that journey is important as well. Do I think it was a massive underachievement? Absolutely not. If we had gotten two more wins in the conference and went to the Elite 8 then I would have called it a great achievement.

I think this team has the talent to finish 10-8 to 11-7 in the conference and be a fringe Top 25 (top 6 seed). I think those goals are still very attainable. Next year will be fun because there will be no expectations and we will learn more about CSP's style of play.

Great recruiting class next year is certainly a strength while game management, time out use, and substitution are a struggle from time to time.

A lot can change for a team in February and this was a great win. However, as much as the win over Kansas validates the "Prohm" fans it also validates the other side regarding the talent that we have on this team. The truth is likely somewhere in the middle. In reality...we are all Prohm supporters. No one wants to see him fail because it means Iowa State will fail.

Great post. Although, the bolded is wrong. There are definitely posters on here that want him to fail to justify their opinions. This thread has a few.

guess it does not matter how much success a team has, there is a certain fringe element who just are petulant children when it comes to this stuff and will focus only on negatives even after wins.

Thanks JSB. Floyd took over a team of talented seniors, that everyone had high expectations of, similar to Prohm's last years team.

Holding KU to 37 points in 2nd half and OT was as impressive as anything. Typically, that doesn't happen in Lawrence, especially after giving up 52 in the first. We were active defensively, got some tips and thought our ballscreen defense caused a lot of disruption.

It's easy for some people on here to question Prohm's coaching ability, as if they have the first clue on what it takes to run a major D1 basketball program. They make it out to be, "hey all we gotta do is A, B and C and we will win". Is Prohm perfect? No, and I would bet my house he would be the first to tell you that he hasn't always called the right play or had correct rotations, etc...

If nothing else, yesterday showed the players haven't given up on each other and r still buying in to what Prohm is teaching.
This. I haven't seen enough talk about our second half defensive adjustments. They couldn't even hardly get a pass off inside because we had a guy denying the pass and another crashing in to steal the ensuing lob pass...I think we had 3 steals in the second half that were exactly that. That was a change from how we were defending in the first, and it shut them completely down inside.

Guys in his locker room say he's a lower tier assistant... Link somewhere on ESPN about that... Fred's GREAT with the locker room until the last 2 years but the fact we're tied for 3rd in the best league without major parts is CSP's fault.
Wait isn't that a good thing.

Coaches can improve, and maybe he is, but imo it's more of a case of people seeing what they want/expected.

A normal and acceptable variance in quality of play or things as fickle as shooting can have a huge impact on a team like this. We didn't learn anything more than we already knew- we're outmanned against the better teams out there, but if we're (Burton) hot we can play with anyone because he gets these guys to play hard. Prohm won't often be the limiting factor, it will be the roster.

Imo this game shouldn't greatly impact our thoughts on Prohm. He's already proven to be Fred's equal, sans 2010-2014 Fred's success in filling holes.

It is one game , ya a big win in very tough place, but please don't for one second think that prohm is going to win a big 12 title or coach in the elite 8. Prohm is not some newbie coach like Fred who learnt on the Job, he has experience and this is his best, which is not very good.

Todays win shows the potential this team has, which Prohm is not able to bring out consistently.
Let these close loses be reminder he is a terrible coach and this is his 11TH year coaching

I imagine this is how Cyclones2001 reacted when we won.

Rhoads never had a coaching staff that could recruit like Prohm has

This is comical.

I'm on the fence with Prohm. While I do think there are times he could have done a few things different at the end of some games, the players themselves have missed far too many shots, some wide open, at the end of many of our losses this year. I put more of our losses this year on the players not executing down the stretch than on Prohm.

One thing I will say, he is a class act who represents the University with pride. He doesn't act like a child on the sidelines like a few other coaches (no need to name names), and seems to be a high level recruiter. We will know more in 2-3 more years after he gets his own guys in and has a chance to develop them.

Congrats to him and the team on a huge win Saturday. I'm glad they enjoyed it and are getting back to business.

I am still amazed we were beating them in second half scoring 40-21 at one point. Has a team ever done that in Phog Allen? Very impressive.

My hope is that CSP realizes what the difference was in the 2nd half vs. the first half - and that was a CONSTANT defensive presence in the paint with either Holden or Young! We go killed in the first half with Prohm's favorite tiny line up (Babb at the 4, Burton at the 5), just like we did in the second half against Vanderbilt, Kansas, WVU, etc. KU shot 70% because most shots were from less than 3 feet out!! Steve needs to under stand that it is not about the 'bigs' running and scoring - it is about defending, altering shots, and - wait for it - offensive rebounding!!!!!
