WBB Recruiting

Aubrey Joens is the younger sister of 2018 verbal Ashley Joens.

Speaking of talented sisters, Megan Meyer of Mason City verballed Iowa earlier this week, where she'll join her sister Mackenzie. Iowa State, Drake, and SDSU were her other finalists.

Obviously, we recruited Meyer hard - she will be better than her sister IMO. Dad is a Hawk, Mom is a Cyclone.
I don't have the Bluder hate like others on the board do, but I just don't see Iowa going anywhere until Baranczyk ultimately goes there to coach.

Karp was a good get and will add to our post positions depth which we need badly. Bluder is also not hated here. I am interested to see one of their latest verbals get on the court. Monica Czinaro a 6-2 post out of Mn. She should give them some muscle under the basket. We got in the recruiting battle late on her. Our 2018 class looks like another very good group. It would be nice to land another player for the 2017 season like the Tennessee or Nebraska transfers.

I'm not all that sure ISU recruited Megan Meyer very hard. From a personal standpoint I wish they would have as it was my understanding that at one time she wanted to be a Cyclone. I was led to believe that the staff showed some interest in Megan. How intense that was, I do not know. She is a great young lady, is very smart, is a "gamer', works her butt off and plays best under pressure. I am sure she will do very well at Iowa. The only reason I can come up with as to why ISU perhaps did not recruit her that hard was maybe the staff felt like they had that position filled for that class. I wish her all the luck in the world. Her family is A-1. JMO.

Actually, we recruited her much harder than Iowa did.

How does Bluder continue to land talent without anything to really show for it. It took having an Elite All American caliber player for them to get to the 2nd round.

I don't think they are as bad as you think considering in the last 10 years:

Iowa: Three 2nd rounds and one Sweet Sixteen from 8 appearances.
ISU: Two 2nd rounds, one Sweet Sixteen and one Elite Eight in 9 appearances.

It's not like we have been levels above Iowa in the last ten years. Fennelly has Bluder beat career wise (for March success) but not so much the last ten years, it is kind of a push. Even career wise it's a bit of a push for total wins and total NCAA appearances.

When you consider UI staff salary vs ISU (for example Jan Jensen make 50% more than Jodi Steyer as Assoc Head Coach) they should be way ahead in performance.

All right, I'll bite. Who's Karp?

And more "love" from the Des Moines register.

Ironically, we have seen Iowa really nail down some big classes last several years, but their 2018 class, to me, based off what I have read, but though they did get Meyer for 2019.

I was more mused by how they were playing up the whole state of Iowa and midwest connections and failed to note the Frese coached at Iowa State and Minnesota and only mentioned in passing that Young had an offer from ISU. Would have thought that their passive aggressive coverage style for ISU would have had them noting that Young passed on playing at a P5 school only 20 miles away. Her parents would have been gotten tired of watching so many games. I kid, I didn't get the impression we were ever really in it the hunt, am I wrong?

As for Iowa, it's our turn to win it this year since it is in Ames.

You never know really how much a kid had interest in a program that they didn't commit to, but I think the interest was more than a casual offer.

Even with McGraw, 2019 has a potential 4 or 5 spots open on the roster, barring adding more 2018s.

Both of Young's parents graduated from ISU. She had an early offer. But, not sure the interest was all that great.

She's a fine young lady and will do well at Maryland. Fits their playing style very well, IMO.

I think we had high interest but Young may have other ideas (I think your post is in that regard). Rag on me if you like, but that stupid lawsuit taints minds - even if we are 100% cleared.
