WBB: General All-NCAA Thread - Not Team Cyclones Stuff

Wondering if Hawks having five commits for 2024 means Caitlin Clark is going WNBA and not using her 5th year?

Saw on another board that plus five recruits, minus three 5th year players and with Clark returning they would be at 16 for 2024. They are at 14 now and would gain a net two. They are carrying Ava Jones, the gal injured so badly in a car accident that she will realistically never play. Jones could do a medical hardship (if that's what it is called...don't want to look and find the term) allowing her to be on scholarship but she would be prohibited from ever playing, at least at Iowa.

I also see 16. Maybe Clark won't do five years and Bluder already knows that?

By my calculation:

No eligibility after this season:
Molly Davis -- this is her bonus COVID year
Kate Martin -- this is her bonus COVID year, and she also had an extra year for redshirt
Gabbie Marshall -- this is her bonus COVID year

1 year left after this season:
Sydney Affolter
Caitlin Clark -- including bonus COVID year
AJ Ediger
Addison O'Grady

2 years left after this season:
Taylor McCabe
Kylie Feuerbach -- including bonus COVID year and medical redshirt
Jada Gyamfi
Sharon Goodman -- including bonus COVID year and medical redshirt
Hannah Stuelke

3 years left after this season:
Kennise Johnson
Ava Jones -- really it's four more assuming another medical redshirt this season. Technically she could keep doing medical redshirts as long as the NCAA is willing to extend her 5-year window, but Iowa probably isn't planning to keep her on scholarship more than 4 or 5 years.

Incoming 2024 class:
Ava Heiden
Aaliyah Guyton
Teagan Mallegni
Taylor Stremlow
Callie Levin

Which would remove her from counting against the 15 limit.

Right. But since her dream appears to be to return to the court, that's a difficult thing for Iowa to do. And I doubt they consider that an option.

That was sort of my point in bringing it up. Just to spitball, maybe she is planning to take the medical after this season. It is possible she could get sort of a tribute appearance in a game like she did at the end of her HS season she missed. I'd guess being a member of the official roster for this year, even if she'll not play, has to be good for her recovery. It's a really sad story.

If Clark wants to come back and they are short a scholly they will nudge someone into the transfer portal.

Well 13 does a story on the WBB scrimmage at Kinnick they had 55,000 announced for it. I sure hope they find a way to fall flat this yr.
94-72 was the final.

They did raise $250,000 for the University of Iowa’s Stead Family Hospital. Kudo's to DePaul Blue Demons for participating in the exhibition. With a lot of new players it wasn't likely they would win but they got to play in that unique event.
