WBB: General All-NCAA Thread - Not Team Cyclones Stuff

Saturday Big 12, future opponents, Iowa schools:

  • 9-1 Kansas State (#24) plays South Dakota State in Kansas city (No TV, where ESPN+?)
  • Drake is at #18 Creighton (FloHoops = Not TV, Boo!)
  • St. Joes at #25 Villanova (******* Flohoops, so no preview of our game next week)
  • Minnesota at #16 Iowa (quick turnaround for Iowa versus the Gopher freshman). 8 p.m. BTN main channel, going to tune in to see the kid Gophers, especially Mara Braun.
Last night Kansas thumped #12 Arizona in Tucson 77-50! That's going to bump them into the Top 25. Would be six teams in for Big 12 if Texas wasn't starting the season like crap.

Starting to make the Sisters look like a mid to second tier team in the conference to date

Conference my be better than I thought it would be. I think we should still be the favorite unless Texas pulls it's head out of it's ass. Knowing our luck Texas will jell as team about Big 12 time.

Kansas State is surprising good (so far) considering they don't have Lee. They play defense. Kansas is a surprise period, at least to me. I thought league would be ISU/Texas with Baylor and Sooners a step behind than another tier of the Kansas schools and than the "rest" in a bottom tier you should go 8-0 against.

I agree…if the sisters fix what ails them. If they keep having these soon half meltdowns in critical games…it will be interesting.

Some big 12 teams have played some cupcake non-con's (Tech really stands out in this regard, KU too until this game with Arizona) so hard to judge what the conference will look like.

that seems to be what Tech does year in and year out. Start the conf season with a lofty record and then fall on their faces. KU's win against U of A was def an eye opener. They looked like a young and coming team last year (as did KSU) so I expect them to be tough for some schools to match up with.

SO WHO HAS THE BEST TEAM IN THE BIG 12??

The authorities thought TX had a super team in the making and they may still be as time goes on. But they have melted 4 times already against the 4 good teams they faced. And as everyone on this board is well aware of, ISU was also touted highly with good ranking and expectations. But against the two decent competitors (NC & IU) they looked rather bad especially in the second half collapses. OU was ranked and great things were being said and then they met their first team with a pulse, number 25 Utah and lost by 47 !!! Baylor has faced three lower ranked teams yet very decent teams and came out with 2 losses. So actually at this moment KU is currently looking the best with that good spanking they gave AZ on their home court. And they are the only undefeated team at this time. Therefore I predict that a whole lot of cannibalism is gonna be going on here come conference time. Winning on the road will be very important this year. This was why BU dominated for so long. Kim was able to go on the road again and again and bring a win home, So circle the road games. That's probably where the trophy will be won,

Couldn’t agree more. A win on the road is worth 1.5 wins at home.

The only thing I took note of for Kansas is that their 6'-6" JC transfer Taiyanna Jackson is averaging a double-double. She was All-Big 12 defense last year and maybe has taken another step up in her game?

Now that Nebraska is out of the NCAA volleyball tourney I am interested in seeing how Maggie Mendelson does for the Husker's woman's basketball team. One of the deals in her recruiting is that she wanted to play BOTH sports. Going to be tough for her to transition as a freshman without having practiced much with the team. She was practicing once a week with the hoops team, at least earlier this semester. Also interesting is she is quite young, turned 17 last spring, reclassified and graduated early to be in class of 2022.

"She was the No. 2 recruit in the 2023 class, according to Prep Volleyball, before reclassifying to join the Huskers in 2022. She was also the No. 32 basketball recruit in the nation according to ESPN in 2022." - Huskers bio

Look at this box score. Notre Dame had nearly as many FTs as FGs.

Fennelly's dream game where we shoot 38 free throws and the other team shots only 6. Man, those 50-60 point uber routs like the one you linked are just sad mismatches. :(

Here's the latest poll. I think the ranks for ISU and Iowa are pretty fair. At this point they are both Sweet Sixteenish looking to prove they are Elite Eightish. Cyclones are top ranked Big 12 team while Iowa clocks in at #3 for the Big 10 (Thee Ohio State and Indiana Wants Me are both in Top 4, for now).

Kansas jumped into the Top 25 while Kansas State tumbled to RV/#32. Creighton is up to #16. Co-favorite for the Big 12, Texas, is still down to RV and got only 6. Villanova, next opponent, is now in at #25.

Texas announced today that Aaliyah Moore, who was a pre-season All Big 12 pick has a torn ACL and will miss the remainder of the season. A tough blow to a team that was already struggling a bit.

Boring slate of games today, tomorrow is much better. Our game versus a ranked opponent, obviously, but some other games of note on Sunday. Ha, nothing to watch today and everything in the 2:00 slot for tomorrow!

#2 Stanford hosting struggling Tennessee. 2:00 p.m. ABC
#12 Iowa hosting UNI at 2:00 p.m. BTN+
#5 Notre Dame at #6 Virginia Tech 3:00 p.m. ACCN
#20 Baylor vs #18 Arizona in Dallas 6:30 p.m. ESPN2 Worth a look to see how Baylor looks.

Did watch #1 South Carolina versus the South Dakota State Jackrabbits for a bit Thursday night. South Carolina looked really good on defense and pretty bad on offense. Game was at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls like the "TV Game" our MBB played there a couple of years back versus Colorado. They ended up winning 62-44 but it was a slough.

Tuned in Baylor vs Arizona after workout hoping to maybe see a good game. Not a good game. Woof. Baylor looking really bad tonight. Think I'll start calling LSU "New Baylor". Missed the first half but apparently Aijha Blackwell, their star transfer from Mizzu, tried to play but left the game. She's been out with a knee/leg injury.

Earlier UNI gave Iowa a pretty good game but Iowa prevailed.

You saw the New Baylor tonight. I've hinted around in a couple of posts about it. I don't think very many of your read it but I've alluded to it a time or two and based on what you saw tonight, Did I Lie?

Nope, you did not. I for one pay attention to @geewago posts and appreciate your input on all things SW in the Big 12. So, what's the buzz on Blackwell, I missed most of the first half when they likely talked about it.

Observation: Weird to see Bears shooting threes and having announcers talk about that being a a big part of their game.
