WBB: General All-NCAA Thread - Not Team Cyclones Stuff

Since we are essentially out of the race do any of you care who finishes first now? Not a lot of individual star power in the Big 12 right now or teams I feel are fun to watch so I don't really have a favorite. Maybe go for the upstarts rom TTU? They haven't been good in forever and do have a couple of ex-Cyclones although neither was at ISU very long.

After tomorrow and the 1/3 mark of conference play TTU will likely be 6-0 (don't see them losing at home to Houston) and the four teams tied for second will be whittled down to two at 5-1 (Baylor @utah, TCU @ WVU).
Don't have the time nor desire to figure it out, but is a 4 way tie mathematically possible ?

TT is a puzzle. The reason they won by one at Waco was due to Scott being out. But how did they win at WVU? I noted earlier that they were beating some non con teams that were decent competition. Can't see them winning it all, but they are a scrappy little group with a coach that had good success at UTA before going there. If they win it all I can say is Hats off to them.

WV seems to have the tools to take it all. But why did they lose to TT at home? Will they do the same when TCU & BU come knocking? If they win those two I'd say they're behind the steering wheel. If only they can just keep their foot off their own brake pedal.

TCU still has me believing in spite of the spitwad they coughed up at Utah. I watched that game. They played their worst game of the year there. But with only a few seconds left Olivia Miles goes to the FT line. Had she made both it would have never gone to OT. But she got distracted by players & coaches. Almost had three conversations going on at once. When all the drama and instructions were over she quickly/casually threw the shot up. You could tell by the look on her face she knew she had screwed up. She concentrated and swished the net. Mental mistake, very rare for her.

Baylor, the team that could beat anybody in the league or lose just as well. Have to play at TT, WV, UU, BYU, & meet TCU twice. They were gifted a game at OSU when they were behind by 19 with 4 minutes left in the 3rd. But suddenly OSU choked the chicken as bad as any team I've ever seen. That was the game where Scott got fouled on 4 missed three pointers and converted them into 11 points. Game changer right there. So = I will not be surprised if they finish 1st or 4th. Both are possible.

ISU. Well ya'll know the rest of the story here. Right now they just need to win some games and work their way back. They could easily finish strong and get a bye in KC but it won't come easy. Will be even harder if Brown doesn't return. BU & WV are good, but still, losing at Hilton?? and of course the stinker of all stinkers = Cincinnati ?? That should have never happened. So now I'm sure I have cleared the water up for all of you.

My wife and I, along with another couple, frequently take a southern vacation in late February / early March to jump start bicycle season. Fort Worth is a bike friendly city and we’ve been there four times - many miles of bike trails along the Trinity River. Several years ago, the ISU men and women played in Fort Worth the same week in March, so we planned our bike trip to take in those games. TCU fans were very friendly, which resulted in TCU vaulting over OSU as my second favorite Big XII school. With ISU essentially eliminated, I’ll root for Bristow and Fritz as long as they stay in the race, then drop down to Donovan Hunter and the Horned Frogs.

I don't really care and won't track closely, BUT, if I have to choose/cheer for a team outside of ISU (of top contenders):

TTech: my first choice as I really liked Jaylnn Bristow when she was here. Plus, they are Darkhorse coming from no hype preseason. Fritz too-I guess, but she burned her bridges with her attitude.

WVU: I don't really like them, due to style of play. Still above Baylor or TCU though.

TCU: bought and overhyped. Can't stand their court floor.

Baylor: I don't hate as much since Mulkey left, but still toward bottom of conference on likeability scale

I am not sure who else I would root for but it will not be any team whose coach is after the officials from tip off complaining about every call they feel they don't get and every call that goes against them.

TCU had a nice 14 point lead and than gave 8-0 run up with a bunch of turnovers to WVU so lead is 6 at the half. TCU playing really good defense. Some weird calls. Lots of offense fouls getting called, a lot of them on picks or pick and rolls that were more roll than pick. More than you'd see in two or three games and half looked bogus to me.

I was looking into Texas Tech’s miraculous turn around. Gerlich appeared to have cleaned house this last offseason with hiring all new assistants. Crazy how big of a difference that has made.

Had the Texas/SC and later the Iowa/Oregon game on last night in the background. Watched both in spurns while doing other tasks (cooking/eating/surfin').

First game was a turnover feast with both teams combining for 42 TO's. And other than Rae Johnson little sister, Tess Johnson, lot's of three-pointer bricks thrown. SC managed to hold on for three point win. Close game but not very "entertaining" to non fans of these schools.

Iowa game wasn't as close but probably better entertainment. Hawk fans got to see Addie Deal finally having a big game. Stuelke flirted with a triple-double. Oregon looked pretty decent. Went on a 7-7 shooting streak that made it a competative game in 2nd half.

Iowa improved to 6-0 but have four ranked teams to play in next six (looked at that after announcers made a big deal about it) plus USC on the road and NET #15 Gophers as the two unranked. Tough streak, maybe my local Gophers can finally beat Iowa, it's an 11 game losing streak to Iowa. Last time was twice in 2017-2018 over the Gustafson Hawks, was at one of those games in Williams.

I was shocked at how bad the three point shooting was for both teams. They could have built a wall with all the bricks

Oregon is very pesky on defense. Great games from Hannah and Addie, tough night for McCabe and Layla.

Tech falls to the Purple Kitties. Four Texas tech starters combined for 13 points. Maupin had 18 on 5/13 shooting.
You knew it was coming. You just didn't expect it to be at home, with the largest crowd of the year, against a team that will not even be in the NCAA tournament unless they go on a 15 game winning streak.

Yeah, maybe expected but against a better team. Still a little early to be calling them out. They get TCU, ISU and Baylor (again) to go but all at home and OSU on the road.

Unless a bad injury bug hits TCU & BU I expect both of them to go into Lubbock and thump em.
