WBB: General All-NCAA Thread - Not Team Cyclones Stuff

Washington State hosted a women's/men's doubleheader with Idaho today and Idaho won both games.

From those scores both games would have been entertaining

Literally what is the point of games like these? One game was 52-0 at halftime.

I agree. The winner doesn’t even get a glorified scrimmage out of it. The loser gets a check.

Okie State is playing an NAIA school tonight. I wonder what good it does to play someone who can’t remotely compete? Currently up 82-15 in the 3rd.

For the Northridge/Bethesda game, all five Bethesda players had 40 minutes. Only two made a field goal. There were FOUR total made field goals in the game. I don't understand what the point of being humiliated on the court would be. I get the money thing, but can't imagine Northridge is able to pay out *that* much for a beatdown like this. It also couldn't do much for morale of the overmatched program. Just feels kinda icky.

Most of the team was sick; they only had 5 players available.

Last year Houston only had 6 players when they came to Hilton, and that was an improvement from an earlier game.

UCF is now the second Big 12 team to let us down in non-con play, losing today to Charlotte. I guess they'll be battling Cincinnati for the bottom spot this year. I thought when they hired Sytia Messer a few years ago they she would eventually bring them out of the pit. I guess I thought like Parkers dog.

Just looked at scores (only looked at ranked teams).
  • Iowa beat Evansville by 76 points. Maybe an Iowa record? Rude homecoming for Hawk Molly Davis who is a grad assistant for the Aces. Saw that Davis tidbit pop into my media feed.
  • TCU's Miles played 35 minutes in a 40 point win. Curious.
  • In the only ranked team matchup, #18 USC beat #9 NC State by one point. Top freshman Jazzy Davidson scored 21 pts for USC.
  • In other non-cupcake action UConn hammered Florida State by 32 points. Strong and Fudd combined for 44 points, each averaging a point a minute.

I watched the TCU game. Miles picked up her third foul in the middle of the 2nd quarter. The coach left her in. He said he wanted her to learn to play with the fouls on her because he figured she would face this situation in some crucial games this year. Probably a very smart move. He brought in a bunch of tall girls this year. Everybody wondered if they could play or were "just tall". So far they seem pretty good to me. Two of them especially. I think TCU may be the "real deal" again.

Two of those bigs, Basham and Portlock, aren’t doing much against overmatched competition. Portlock has yet to play (injury?). Suarez and Silva look to be their posts of choice and Silva hasn’t exactly been overpowering. I’d say they are def a build in progress. But as the old saying goes, you can’t teach 6’7”. Like ISU I want to see a much bigger sample size before I say they are back.

Drake lost to Creighton at home yesterday. I hadn’t realized that Grace Boffeli had transferred from UNi to Creighton. She went for 11 points and 11 boards in the win.
