WBB: General All-NCAA Thread - Not Team Cyclones Stuff

That was unfortunate. She is a legend in Minny and I think she was responsible for the popularity and growth of WBB in Minnesota.
Her hire was similar to Hoiberg's hire that could be "high risk / high reward" hire and the program was in turmoil after Marlene Stollings bolted to Tech. She had a lot of goodwill but she had tons of problems including players transferring (one of them was Sara Scalia, their leading scorer, who is at Indiana now).

Wow. I thought she'd get one more year after a pretty good recruiting class of freshman this year but they totally augered in to where I wasn't even following along anymore.

Wondering if she took one for the U here or was actually going to be fired?

Going to need a killer hire to hang on to those freshman. The right coach keeping the kids and adding a couple transfers could have an immediate impact.

It seems that she was ushered out. The presser was weird because it was expected that she would be there but didn’t show up.
Coyle repeatedly said it was a mutual decision but I doubt it.
My hunch is Whalen probably wanted another year.

Stanford and Utah both upset in the Pac-12 tourney. Both were #1s in the NCAA's last reveal.

Utah lost in the quarters to conference #7 WSU, 66-58.
Stanford lost in the semis to conference #5 UCLA, 69-65.

Also, projected NCAA #4 seed Arizona lost in the quarters to UCLA.

Women's basketball refs continue to be the worst.

I saw that. The refs have absolutely gone from bad to worse. Everybody but OD and the refs saw it. But it cant be fixed because it's not a call that can be reviewed. Tell me why it can't be reviewed. Stupid rule. Stupid refs. Should have been a Technical. The most discouraging thing about WBB is the incompetence of the refs. They can see a doodle bug but miss an elephant.

Well after all on the men's side the refs allowed a KU 3 pt basket between two ISU free throws!

Remember?

Another 8 person ejection. This time between Kentucky and Florida.

And again the refs missed the incident that started the brawl - the Kentucky player shoving the ball into the face of her opponent. If the whistle had blown at that instant maybe the whole thing might not have happened.

Reminded me that years ago the Cyclone men were at Missouri (listening to Pete Taylor). A Mizzu player got a rebound and smashed a Cyclone player in the face with it. Totally missed by the refs, of course. Johnny walks out to midcourt before the refs notice and he is ejected. Afterwards he said he just wanted to show that those refs had no clue on what was going on on the court! Classic Johnny!

#7 Iowa versus #5 Maryland at 4:00 in a rubber match for the teams on paper looks to be a good game for fun viewing. Clark, Diamond Miller, lots of offense. Ha, now watch it be a slugfest with an O/U of 115 or something rather than the anticipated 170 or so.

Ordinarily I don't put much stock in conference tournaments moving the NCAA seeding needle much but that might not be true for Iowa. They were #9 in the last Sweet Sixteen reveal so are only one slot away from a #2 seed. Maryland is a #2 seed so it might be a match up the committee would actually pay attention to.
