My wild speculation is that the whole Terminus thing is a trap set by this guys to rob and kill survivors.
There's a good chance of that. But like the one guy said this week - you need people to survive. You need people to start a secure zone and an economy where you can begin to produce surpluses again so that you can survive. You need people to defend against the evil living so that you can produce a community.
That was one problem I had when they kept rejecting people wanting to join with them. There's a risk involved when you bring new people in, but eventually you have increase your numbers or you die out altogether.
Interesting thought.
Terminus is a terrible name for a safe haven. They've also done the whole "Utopia town" thing before.
Did Terminus claim to be a Utopia? it just claimed to accept all comers.
And it isn't a bad name for a railhead.
It just said "Those who arrive, survive" which makes it sound like it's the bees knees. Something just seems shady, I dunno. Hopefully it serves as a rally point so at least some if not all of the main characters can reunite.
Since I don't have the inside info from the comics (and please don't correct my assumptions if YOU do, posters!) I'm going to assume that Terminus is a plot device. The road sign, the sign on the side of the truck (I think that's what that was)...they were different signs in different locations directing random people to a single location.
Everyone scattered in different directions at different times when the attack was going on. Realistically, there is NO way that all of our cast would find each other again just by aimlessly wandering around in the woods. When they ran from the farm, they all thought of the rally point for Sophia. They didn't have anything like that this time, other than the bus itself. Let's face it...between people getting on & off & going back for others, and the random shots that apparently killed one or two and subsequently turned everyone on the bus, that really didn't turn out very well!

Given this show's willingness to kill off major characters, I'm a little slower to invest in any newcomers now. Ask me after a couple more episodes. 
Both the show and the books center around the basic idea that people are the greatest danger and also the only hope of salvation.
As far as "Terminus" it's pretty cool the show is so different that I really don't know what category it will fit into...but feel quite confident it will be one extreme or the other.

He seems a bit off though. Not sure if I believe his story that he knows what to do about the outbreak.
Oh, I believe it. I have been waiting for some Doctor/Scientist person to come along. But, I guess the guy could be full of it or indeed, crazy. Who knows!?
To add to that...the definition of terminus: a boundary, limit, end. With root meanings "to overcome", "an edge", "a goal", "i go into".
All of this based on definitions, correlations to geographical history, would suggest that Terminus is in fact a safe haven. Perhaps a true colony of survivors. The more ominous definition: the end.
My problems with that plot line:
1) If I was a part of a group looking out for myself, then it would be a great way to ambush the unsuspecting/desperate.
2) I can't envision a large settlement. How do the current core cast members stay relevant in a large community? In woodbury they only had a couple that they really focused on when it was introduced.
Either way, I'm excited for the rest of the season!

If he is, he would be high-functioning. I think the nerd assessment is probably closer. He is definitely lacking in social skills...and targeting skills when shooting a gun. Based on the way he was shooting, I think they're very lucky he killed the truck rather than one of the non-zombified humans in the group!
Question: why do scientific types always have to be portrayed in varying degrees as inward-focused introverts lacking social skills? Eugene. Milton. The CDC doc in season 1. The guys on TBBT. Hell, even Indiana Jones turned into a noodge as soon as he set foot back on campus.
