Walking Dead

What's funny to me is that I don't even like zombie movies, this show/comic won me over with 3 simple concepts. People are the real threat, not the zombies. Nobody is safe from the cruelty and if you are expecting a happy ending, not so fast.
I think the show has missed in some areas but gets more heat than it deserves. Find me 5 shows with the same quality for 5+ seasons that doesn't repeat some general themes or concepts? To say it "isn't worth watching" is silly.

Damn it... I agree.

What changes would make you want to keep watching? I'm curious.
I have no idea what I would change. It's gotten stale to me. Very cyclical.
They stay in bad locations/situations too long. And too many wtf are you thinking moments. And the characters aren't as good as they used to be IMO. I'm aware I'm in the minority. Maybe I'll catch back up in the future, but I don't watch a lot of tv, so I get picky and want to enjoy what I watch.

Well the problem I have with these types of shows is that they tend to wander until someone decides to either pull the plug or finally design an end. I was happy that Game of Thrones has a definitive ending coming, whether Martin finishes the books or not. TWD could wander for many more which is frustrating and we get a bunch of fluff episodes to round out a season.

Did I say that? we watch it together and mutually agreed it's not worth watching going forward.

It's based on a comic still going strong though. So if they decide to end the show they would need to divert completely away from the comic and create their own vision of an ending. I don't think the comic is anywhere near a stopping point, or even if there will be an ending.

Thats what Im saying. I think the show needs to end differently and sooner than later. Drag it on too far, viewers will stop watching and it will get cancelled before finality.

I guess I can kind of understand the general critique that the show is cyclical but for me there is enough variation to make it entertaining. I guess I don't just view it as another big bad threat, or bad guy of the week type show.

If you look at the show in it's entirety it's really about the rebuilding of society. When Rick wakes up the world is in shambles and the start is just trying to survive everyday. Then they slowly start trying to rebuild things, first at the farm then the prison. Then at the prison they have the war with Woodbury but its still just between two small factions and neither of them have really be successful at building something sustainable. Then we move on to Alexandria which is a bigger, more sustainable community and start to learn that there are others like the Hilltop, Kingdom, and Negan's group. I'd think that we'll just continue to see the world expand and grow as they rebuild but there will always be a "big bad" because shows need conflict to create drama.

I heard Jeffrey Dean Morgan giving an interview on the Rich Eisen show today. He mentioned the fact that Negan's language in the comics is much more colorful than will fly on AMC, but during filming they are often filming two versions of Negan dialogue with the intention of including the F-bomb laden version in some sort of directors cut.

Heard the show runner say the same thing on a nerdist podcast. He did every monologue twice.

lol, the season premiere is anything but "things are changing". Have you forgotten that Rick & Co lost their first "battle" against the governer as well?

I'll continue watching the show, but there is absolutely nothing new about this story line. I just hope that this is the last "big bad" storyline this show comes up with. I don't think I can stand another one.

What else do you want them to do?

Killing Rick off. Killing Carl off to see if Rick ever breaks permanently. I will say that killing Abraham makes for a good storyline for Eugene. I would have said killing Maggie to see what Glenn does would have been good. Now, maybe this season will be different but it doesn't feel different right now.

Killing Abraham directly impacted three characters' storylines. You're forgetting about Sasha (losing ANOTHER man in her life) and Rosita.

They did film an alternate scene with her being executed with Lucille. I almost wish they would have so it would throw of the readers a bit more. It would also make more sense why the blood spatter on Rick was if it was right next to him....where Maggie was.

If they do something with that, it would be good. I just don't know that they will. I think the upside for Eugene's story is pretty good.

I would also say that I think shows like Breaking Bad, True Detective, etc. have lead to unreasonably high expectations for me, especially since Sunday night TV is pretty good right now. TWD is kind of an afterthought. Take Shameless, for instance. Every character is somewhat repetitive but within that I think they do a good job of still making the characters grow even though they keep doing the same ****.

Like I said, I'm not going to stop watching but it's mostly because I want to see how it ends at this point. I hope I'm proven wrong but I can't really think of a show that kind of flattened out and then was brought back from the dead, so to speak.

I thought I read that they filmed literally every single character getting killed by Negan in that scene just to see which ones would leak.

Youre most likely right. I just thought the maggie one made the most sense considering where she was positioned.

I thought I heard them say on Talking Dead once they have material through 10 seasons. This should take us about as far as they can. They need to cut off Fear The Walking Dead sooner rather than later though.

Maggie was back a little ways - she wasn't in a straight line with Rick & Abraham. If she had been the one, the splatter would have been on the back of Rick's shoulder.

Depends on the photo.... ;) But yes, I have seen some with her further back. Some folks spent all summer analyzing these, it was hysterical.

The blood splatter wasn't from hitting Abraham in the head, it was when Negan swung the bat around and pointed it at him or something and it flung off and hit Rick in the face.
