So I'm sick of seeing the car chase thread at the top of the "Campus Life" area of the forums. You students planning a massive "non-VEISHEA" party this week? Someone got a dumpster ready to light?? Stick it to the man!

I hate being the crabby old broad, but I'm gonna:

It's mentalities like this that ruined VEISHEA for those who really enjoyed the celebration for many years.

I lived through "Dry" VEISHEA only to have another riot shortly after it went back to normal. I don't understand why it had to turn into an excuse to riot every year.

It's supposed to be about celebrating the university. Kids enjoying a parade, free bands, and hanging out with your friends. I had way more fun sitting on my lawn, drinking, playing cards, and people watching, than I ever would have rioting and breaking stuff.

Still don't see how a parade for the kids would have hurt anything....hell call it something other than Veishea.

Don't knock it until you try it.

Good gosh, the crabby pants crowd sniffed this thing out quickly.

I agree on the parade needing to come back, it was a nice showcase for ISU and brought the Ames community in to check things out each year.

It's all those dang suburbanites that think they can handle the City but end up being stupid that ruin it for everyone.

Problem with canning VEISHEA is they also punished the Ames community. The parade, for example, was probably 90% Ames residents/families in attendance.

I'll echo the comment that I had a great time at VEISHEA all 4 years and never got in trouble. We drank lots, spent the week on lawns/front porches, went to the bars, ate taste of veishea to soak up the booze, and had a great time overall.

Applause to the idiots who ruined it for everyone. You must be a special kind of stupid.

Having a parade gives it a defined date. If you don't define the date, it makes coordination of any other Unofficial VEISHEA trickier. Shoot we've had some debates in the last week on which week VEISHEA actually would have been on. That kind of confusion is exactly what the University and Ames PD is hoping will happen. Acknowledging a date for a parade runs counter to their goal.

Sore subject, sorry. Too many people actually HAVE that attitude, and I'm pretty much past joking about it.

A jimlad might have helped....

Then again, maybe not. :)

I'm glad the old folks got another opportunity to sit on their high horse in this thread.

So what is going on this year? Are students still hosting huge parties that spill into the street, or are cops shutting those down instantly?

Some of the bars are doing a thing they are calling "Spring Fest". Did a flippy cup tourney on Monday at Cy's. Went to a lecture on brewing beer last night with free beer. Don't know today's event but we may do it. Going to mug night Thursday, out Friday, and doing beer-olympics on Saturday.
