Updated Bowl Projections

Again... the importance of yesterday's loss cannot be understated. It might be the difference between playing in a BCS bowl and the New Mexico Bowl.

I understand playing to win... but that's not what we did. We knelt down with 40 secs left with our tails between our legs. That is fact. If Rhoads is so "gutsy", he should have given his offense the chance to win it in regulation. Just my opinion.

There is no way you typed that with a straight face.

really???? please explain who we will be passing in the Big XII standings to get us to a better bowl?

5-3 in the conference would put us ahead of K-State who will more than likely finish at 4-4 and Texas Tech who will finish at 4-4. Baylor will probably also finish at 4-4 (although they could beat A&M).

That means the teams ahead of us in conference play would be:

Nebraska
Mizzou
OK State
Oklahoma
Texas A&M

If we finish 4-4, we will be battling with K-State, Tech, & Baylor for the 6th, 7th, & 8th Big XII Bowl games...unless Texas knocks off A&M...then, Texas, K-State, Tech, Baylor, and I-State will all be 4-4 and battling for bowls 5-8.

There's a lot of football left to be played, but if we win out...I see us getting a Big XII bowl game.

If ISU wins out they will go to a big 12 game if they just beat Colorado then it may come down to matchups

Nebraska getting upset in the Big 12 championship game would be awesome. The Big 12 would get 2 BCS spots in that scenario and bumps us up to a Big 12 bowl.

No I think with Oklahom'a loss there is almost no chance that the ig12 gets 2 teams into the BCS

I find it pretty hard to believe that a 7 win MAC team must be picked over a 6 win BCS team. I don't think that is the case. Especially when we whipped the MAC champion pretty well.

I am pretty sure the NCAA has a rule about this. No 6 win team may be selected for a bowl until all teams with at least 7 wins have been chosen. Regardless of conference.

I too am pretty wary about the situation with many bowls in Texas but I think that if we win our next two games, we have a pretty good shot at the Holiday Bowl, where I am predicting we would face Cal. That'd be fun!

No way the Big 12 gets two BCS spots. The 6 conference winners will get spots then TCU and Boise will get in if both are 12-0 and the SEC and Big Ten will most likely get the last two at large bids.

If Boise or TCU gets upset, a 10-2 Oklahoma or Nebraska team might grab an at large bid

The NCAA does have this rule for at-large bowl bids, however, within the Big 12 conference there is no rule. Technically, ISU could make the Cotton Bowl at 6-6 by jumping everyone. It wont happen, but its possible.

I heard from somebody that this rule was done away with and doesn't apply this year. Anybody know if this is true?

To answer my own question, I did a little google-ing and found the following:

Big 12 Proposal Will Hurt Non-BCS Schools' Bowl Chances -- NCAAFB FanHouse

Nov. 2009 - Last week, the NCAA's Division I Board of Directors agreed to sponsor legislation that would treat football teams with .500 records the same as teams with winning records for bowl participation. If the legislation passes, it would allow a bowl, that has to go outside its conference affiliation to fill a spot, to select a more attractive 6-6 BCS school over a 7- or 8-win non-BCS school.

But I can't find any follow-up on whether it passed, anybody know?

Bottom line is we just have to keep the bar raised on our game and let the chips fall where they may.

If you find it hard to believe, then you aren't to familiar with NCAA rules. All 7-5 teams must be placed in bowls before 6-6 at-large teams can be selected (why a 6-6 Iowa team was outside-looking-in 3 years ago).

But did the rule change? It kind of sounds like it did, just no one can find the conclusive link.

Maybe CWilly can look into this?

I just looked into it, and I'm pretty sure NCAA Bylaw 30.9.2.1 no longer exists. In the 2010-2011 NCAA Division 1 Manual, the former bylaws 30.9.1 through 30.9.8 became 18.7.2.1 through 18.7.2.8. When comparing the section in the 2010-2011 manual with the same section in the 2009-2010 manual, the text is the same with the exception of what was included in 30.9.2.1 no longer being there.

Did you find it online? If so, please post the link.

And here is the ESPN projections. They have ISU in Mexico and the Pizza Bowl.
