Troy Davis Booked for Public Intox

I don't know, but I guarantee when the story comes out, he did something dumb. I'm not defending the law, but Ames/DPS don't just attest people for walking around drunk.

Hopefully more of the story comes out. I noticed the date of arrest was 10-2, so after midnight (not a tailgate issue, etc)...living the old glory days on Welch as a 41 year old?

I just heard Matt Campbell on the pre-game radio talking about how good it was having him around the team this week...wonder if he'll amend that comment to the team "guys, you can do great things at ISU....BUT, don't be a doofus"

Of course it's the better charge to have. My point is if he really did something stupid beyond public intox, charge him with it.

I don't disagree with what you're saying, but it isn't uncommon for a cop to arrest a guy for multiple reasons, but charge them with the one that will hurt their reputation the least.

For example, if he were to be peeing in a bush, I believe he would then have to register as a sex offender. For some reason, I have it in my head peeing in public forces you to.

I've had a couple (2) acquaintances who were drunk at different times. Both times they got busted peeing in public, and were just charged with public intox.

I've seen people get it when they were just walking and swerving a little here and there but not falling all over and not a danger to anybody or themselves. Don't know why Troy got his but just wanted to point out that public intox isn't always warranted.

Explain...
I have personally called the Ames Police on the Ames Police twice.
Once for sitting in a squad car and playing solitaire outside Sawyer elementary school.
Another was not stopping at a stop sign downtown.
The solitaire incident did return a call back to me from Sgt. Johnson and he was apologetic, the stop sign incident the car doubled back and went up and down the street a couple times to see if they could figure out who called in.

That being said, Troy probably did something dumb.

You have to have multiple (want to say 3) public urination charges before you're on the sex offender list. Knew a guy in college who was on it because of that. He held it after that.

At some point you have to grow up, right? What was he thinking? I guess he wasn't.

Great job out of Troy to get arrested the day your school honors you. Not good.

I really think it would have had to be something more than just being drunk walking around. I will reserve judgement on both parties till i see the report.
On a lighter note imagine the officer trying to catch and take down Troy Davis.

A guy walking home from bars to Towers....he was drunk....but not confronting anyone, and just drunkenly walking home. Arrested on PI charge. So yes, you can be arrested for just walking home drunk.

I know you can, I've just never once heard of it happening.

Not a lawyer, but can't a public intox be used to legalize an otherwise unjustified search? If you are walking home after 3-4 drinks. Cop suspects for whatever reason you have weed on you. Can't he charge you with PI so he can now search you?

Anyone else see the irony in that when cops shoot unarmed black men they are wonderful and heroic public servants above any criticism, but when they bust someone for PI they are some sort of keystone cops/fun hater/nazi/ahole combination?
Not sure I follow. Have you been watching the news the last 6 months? Plenty of criticism

Even if the same person who defends cops in unarmed black shooting is now critcal of public intox laws.....I wm not seeing the irony.

the law is stupid, i got one for waiting for a taxi....the cops told me to vacate the area as it was after 3am......I walked around the block, they drove off, I came back and continued to wait. the drove back by a few minutes later and arrested me. The thing is, had i kept walking, Im still publicly intoxicated, or if I got in my vehicle and drove off im dwi. The only remedy was to wait for my taxi. a;sldkjf

Randy Pete tweeted he didn't resist arrest. Was stumbling and had a hard time walking. Based on this, please tell me what he did that was so stupid. Aside from not asking for a cab.
